The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Yep. Take your silly ass opinion somewhere that someone GAF and cares to hear it, say a venue somewhere other than a sporting event. I’d like to just watch sports and spend my critical thinking time during that on how the refs just F’ed up a call.

Political action has invaded the sports arena because it's the last place many people actually pay attention to what's going on. Maybe if action was taken when issues are brought up elsewhere we wouldn't have to see them put on display in the gladiatorial circus.

Does not validate any rationalization to shove it in front of me if I don’t want it there. Their opinion that it’s a valid platform to preach at me from isn’t more important or valid than my opinion they should STFU and play the game. Nothing more nothing less.

And I think the latest ratings numbers on the game kinda support my view? Lowest super bowl ratings in a decade? Yeah... perfect time to get preachy to your audience that just wants to watch football.

I thought it was a good game but I like it when defenses dominate. Some of the best baseball games are pitching duels.

I’d question the defense “dominating” with those two offenses. For whatever reason the offenses just looked inept to me.

Where is the appropriate place to reach you, then? And I prefer an answer other than "not there."

And I'd say the numbers of the game have more to do with disinterest because of the Patriots' semi-annual appearance and the mind-shatteringly poor ref performance that has led to deserving teams being left out.

What "preaching" are you talking about? Colin Kapernick kneels pre-game. He doesn't stop the game and start talking to the camera about his world view. The media asks him about it after the broadcast has ended, and he talks, but it's not "shoved in front of" you, you have to search it out so that you can then be pissed about it.

I don't think the game was nearly as bad as people say, but defensive struggles aren't very fun unless you're seeing a lot of big plays, and there weren't many.

I'd say mostly the former. The every-other-year appearances of Brady and the Patriots have to be getting old even to the very casual fan.

If anything, this was the first NFL season in 2 or 3 years where politics, or off the field controversy, wasn't some major story line. When controversy occurred, it was on the field, and most of the stories about the NFL this year were about the actual product on the field. A refreshing change.

It's yet another interesting social phenomenon. It's issues-based hypersensitivity, but the right refuses to acknowledge it as such because it would mean accepting similarities with traits they commonly mock in the left.

It's all in what you enjoy and I enjoy defensive struggles. Of course I like the 3 yards and a cloud of dust brand of football too.

Why do I have to be reached at all if I don’t want to be? I owe you no answer at all you do know that right?

It’s the super bowl. I wasn’t thrilled about the teams but I’ll watch it. I’d say most fans of the NFL game will... unless they losing interest in the sport itself not the particular game.

Truthfully, we are amazed that Dems keep pulling people with no practical experience from out of nowhere to be their saviors. Remember Obama? The unknowns apparently have the same attributes as a team's backup quarterback. They must be better because they have no record of accomplishment.

In all fairness, Trump's accomplishments have a lot to do with what he was given.

Ok...

This was one of my least anticipated Super Bowls ever. I'm so tired of the Patriots and I usually enjoy rooting for the sake of the fans of the team who hasn't won in a while (like the Eagles last year), but the LA Rams fans are possibly the last fan base that deserve a title.

I know you don't owe me an answer, I just enjoy seeing people admit to their root desires.

Yeah in this game the politics were not in the fore front we all noticed that immediately at the party I was at. The league did a little song and dance at the start and then they played ball. I have no idea if any players stayed in the locker room for the anthem or if any took a knee. Didn’t see it so don’t care and don’t intend to go look today about it. Just watched football... like we should.

On the game I didn’t see two “dominant” defenses. I saw two rather lack luster offenses with some questionable play calling. That’s just me. For once I didn’t see a big intrusion by the refs like we have thru the playoffs this year. And the commercials were mostly average. Kudos ok the brand combination ones though, a new spin and probably saved some coin.

Knowing what I know I’d watch it again. I’m a football fan and it’s the super bowl.

I thought I was very clear about my desire several posts back. Take that crap elsewhere during game event. I get enough “reality” in my day to day life.

I thought the Rams defense played really well. The Pats defense made some plays but I thought Goff was tight and confused for basically the entire game. Of course New England probably had something to do with him being confused.

Brees and the Saints would've had a much better chance. I normally don't like that "the spot was too big for him" argument after a bad performance in a big game but I think that was possible with Goff. I don't know if Brees/the Saints would've won, but the spot wouldn't have been too big for them and he wouldn't have been confused, I know that.

I just wanted to see a good game, didn't really want the Patriots to win but I really didn't care.

I for the life of me still can't understand fan devotion to a professional sports franchise.
