Being faithful to your spouse, being a good role-model for your kids, taking care of your parents, truthfulness, honesty, seeking wisdom, avoiding unnecessary violence, working hard at your vocation, being prudent with your money, patience, courage, temperance, open-mindedness, forgiveness...........Disagree. This is up there with the shopping cart test in my mind. At best, you're being a attention-seeking/selfish distraction to everyone by choosing to enter during the anthem.
Where there's smoke there's fire in the "measures of a man" department.
No it isn’t. He would have been broken in 2 playing against the Pistons, Celtics, 76er’s, Knicks, etc…
Showing respect for our national anthem does not absolve us of our national sins and I would never suggest that we should sweep them under the rug. We are a nation of flawed individuals founded by flawed individuals. The freedom to stand or not stand was bought by the blood and sacrifice of many. It may be a nothing burger to you but I know some Gold Star families that would politely disagree with you. There are far more important measures of a man than whether he stands for a song. I respect your position and like you as a poster, but this is a big nothing-burger for me. America has a lot of blood on its hands, so if blind pageantry isn't for someone, it doesn't bother me.
As someone that served in the United States Army and still working for the U.S. government, I believe that standing for the national anthem is a powerful and important act of patriotism and respect. The national anthem represents the values, sacrifices, and unity of our nation. It serves as a symbol of the freedoms and opportunities that our country offers to its citizens. When we stand for the anthem, we honor the men and women who have given their lives to protect those freedoms and uphold our democracy. It's a way of showing gratitude to those who have served and a reminder of our duty to uphold the principles that make our nation great. By standing for the national anthem, we reaffirm our commitment to the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice that the U.S. represents on the global stage. Why is it shameful?
America has committed atrocities against the American Indians, Latin and South America, the Middle East, the Hawaiin Isles, and its own people on countless occasions. To say that we've been an objectively good force in the world is a pretty myopic and self-agrandizing perspective. That's a tired argument, every country has a lot of blood on their hands, the question is: did the blood get there from fighting for the right cause or not (I would argue that America throughout history has stood for what's right the majority of the time).
Lack of Patriotism is a major contributing factor to a lot of the lunacy we face as a society today.
We're also talking about a guy that won't stand for the National Anthem but won't condemn the Chinese committing genocide either because China lines his pockets well. That's a pretty sad example of a man.
I know lots of folks that do all those things and have all of those qualities and still stand for the National Anthem because they have one other quality.... respect for people that paid for their freedoms and rights.Being faithful to your spouse, being a good role-model for your kids, taking care of your parents, truthfulness, honesty, seeking wisdom, avoiding unnecessary violence, working hard at your vocation, being prudent with your money, patience, courage, temperance, open-mindedness, forgiveness...........
None of those things are dependent on whether you stand for the National Anthem. Let's of admirable and principled people aren't "patriotic".
And I know a lot of dirtbags that make grand shows of patriotismI know lots of folks that do all those things and have all of those qualities and still stand for the National Anthem because they have one other quality.... respect for people that paid for their freedoms and rights.

Feel free to leave and try out living in another country. I am sure China or Russia or Iran would welcome you with open arms.America has committed atrocities against the American Indians, Latin and South America, the Middle East, the Hawaiin Isles, and its own people on countless occasions. Showing patriotism does not mean you absolve the nation of its past sins. You know that right. You can still observe things that happened in the past and decide they were wrong and we can be better as a people moving forward. You know that right? And I know a lot of dirtbags that make grand shows of patriotism.
That's the problem with many in this country. They look for the worst about this country and tout that. I mean look at LeBron, a multimillionaire off the backs of hard working Americans. Let him do that in any country.Feel free to leave and try out living in another country. I am sure China or Russia or Iran would welcome you with open arms.
It's not just America or China/Russia. There are lots of free countries in the world.Feel free to leave and try out living in another country. I am sure China or Russia or Iran would welcome you with open arms.
