As someone who has given my entire adult life to the service of this country I would like to slap the ever loving **** out of him. However, if he wants to be a disrespectful pile of refuse he has that right. He was fortunate enough to be born in the greatest country in the world. So I am at an impasse.
My point was to disagree with the overall sentiment of your message. Stating that there are far worse things he could do does not absolve him from any issues begat by his actions in the original video. It's an attempt to end the argument with relativism.Being faithful to your spouse, being a good role-model for your kids, taking care of your parents, truthfulness, honesty, seeking wisdom, avoiding unnecessary violence, working hard at your vocation, being prudent with your money, patience, courage, temperance, open-mindedness, forgiveness...........
None of those things are dependent on whether you stand for the National Anthem. Let's of admirable and principled people aren't "patriotic".
“Concerning” about someone who has been in the spotlight since age 15 and has zero allegations of unfaithfulness, zero criminal charges, and is by all accounts a good and present father is mostly just pearl-clutchingMy point was to disagree with the overall sentiment of your message. Most of the true measures of a man cannot be seen by the public. We go off of what we can see though. And most of what we, the public, can see, is concerning, for someone who is in a position to greatly influence the next generation of kids, and who ESPN spends so much screen time on.
If you hate the place where you live, go somewhere else to live. Also, I think you will find that there are different levels of "freedom" in a lot of those other countries you speak of. Try protesting in Canada and see what that gets you. It's not just America or China/Russia. There are lots of free countries in the world.
But why would I leave America? Should I be punished if I don't make a show of patriotism? That's veering towards authoritarianism and was a common in places like Communist Russia and Nazi Germany.
“We love freedom, also you better respect the special flag song or get out of this country” lolIt's not just America or China/Russia. There are lots of free countries in the world.

People kneeled during the anthem in Canada and absolutely nothing happened to themIf you hate the place where you live, go somewhere else to live. I don't hate anyone. I think it is extraordinarily disrespectful to not stop what you are doing during the national anthem. Knowing what the 1% of men and women that actually serve in the armed forces give up to allow the rest of the nation to have the freedoms they have gives me a bit of a unique perspective maybe. Folks are perfectly within their rights to not stop and show respect, but I am also perfectly within my rights to call them out. Feel free to ignore me. That is perfectly within your rights.
