The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

And then the 60 guys who aren't on the list...

Bradford got two more contracts after that, both over $18m/yr. Foles won a SB. You're making my point for me.

I took it that you knew I meant starters. But okay man. Yes he was better than David Fales as well, ya got me.

I disagree with your conclusion. The NFL wasn't afraid of losing $ with Ray Rice, so I agree it probably was the distraction factor. I think the NFL was definitely worried they would lose $ over Kaep, and that is the reason he was blackballed. I mean, if it's all about winning and you're a decent team but desperately need a QB, why wouldn't you roll the dice on Kaep? That's what the Broncos were trying to do. They lost anyway without him, so with the benefit of hindsight, it would have been a good gamble.
The Ray Rice story was also about $$$. His domestic violence case, and the release of the video in particular, left the sports media bubble and was a national news story there for a little bit. In fact, if memory serves, the video of him knocking out his wife was released like a day or two before/after the season started that year, and the beginning of the season was seemingly overshadowed by that. I remember it being the lead story on CNN/Fox/MSNBC's morning shows, and I think they were quite concerned casual fans would be turned off by it.

You think he was better in 2012 than he was in 2013?

In 2014, Boldin and Davis were starting to wash out. So yeah, his stats are slightly worse, but his team was a lot worse.

Kaep isn't the type of QB who makes a bad team good. He's not the type of QB that will bring you back from a 21-pt deficit. But he is exactly the kind of QB you want with a run game and a defense. The RPO threat was real. Alex Smith QB'd the 8th ranked running game in 2011 with a 28 YO Frank Gore. CK QB'd the 3rd ranked running game in 2013 with a 30 YO Frank Gore and then 4th in 2014 with a 31 YO Frank Gore. CK barely gets any of that credit from anybody.

I meant to say he regressed in 14 as compared to 12 and 13. I could have worded that better...

How was it about $ tho? Negative media attention doesn't mean less $. Sometimes it means more. Who was tuning out because Ray Rice didn't get a lifetime suspension?

So when you said worst QB in the league, you meant besides 2/3 of them. Got it.

Worst QB in the league that played, yes. It was a pretty obvious statement, even though you prefer being obtuse about it. Also usually teams roster only 2 so it would've been 1/2 of them anyway. Just fyi.

The NFL at that time was gaining a large amount of casuals and was able to have these really high YOY gains in TV ratings for an already mature sport. I think even longtime followers of the sport like myself were surprised by it, and the league didn't want to do anything to jeopardize that. It was really bad PR, and not bad PR in the sense of a trainwreck that people wanted to watch.

Diehard fans aren't going to tune out because a player hits his wife, or because the league goes too easy on a player who hits his wife, but I think lots of these casual fans did. Not just because of Ray Rice (there were several high-profile player conduct issues) but also concussions. If you were tuning into NFL games primarily because it was becoming kind of a trendy thing to do, and not because you are a real serious fan of a team or the sport, those things were likely to make you tune out.

That trend seemed to bottom out during the COVID year (remember all the people on there who thought it was because the league went woke?) and now ratings are at those really high 2014-15 levels again. Most of those casuals that came on during the mid 2010s were probably eventually going to tune out anyway - it's the nature of trends.

Whatever is actually the truth about how the $ came and went, at the time, I don't think owners were worried about $ with Ray Rice in any significant way and I think they were worried about $ with the kneeling.

Ray Rice came off a season where he had 600 rushing yards in 15 games at 3.1 ypc. It was incredibly easy for every owner to say "no thanks." He looked totally cooked and that's the way things usually go for 27 YO RB's with 1400+ carries. It's not even close to the same thing as saying "no thanks" to a QB with Kaep's resume. Again, the Broncos wanted Kaep.

Biggest crybaby in the NBA
Well first off, I'm nowhere near a fan of LBJ, but I still cannot wrap my brain around why so many people get their panties in a wad over a flag or an anthem in the United States of America. There is nothing in the founding documents or anything spoken by the Founding Fathers or anything in the Constitution that says that an individual has to bow down to a piece of cloth or to a piece of music in order to be an American.

I swear, just like the left forces me to defend Donald trump, you conservatives put me in a position where I have to defend people like LeBron James and Colin Kaepernick.

All I said was he’s the biggest crybaby in the NBA…. referring only to his antics on the court

Yep. If they want to kneel or show disrespect, that’s their right. It’s also his right to be a giant crybaby. He wouldn’t have lasted a minute in the league in the 80’s-90’s. Players back then were tough.

No it isn’t. He would have been broken in 2 playing against the Pistons, Celtics, 76er’s, Knicks, etc…
Yeah just like this guy was. People are so dumb

Stockton wasn’t a crybaby. It’s not the physical aspect, but the mental, and Lebron doesn’t have it.
He has 4 rings to Stockton's 0, 4 Finals MVPs to Stockton's 0, but he "doesn't have the mental toughness." Painfully stupid
Also, you are clearly a racist.
"Racist" to compare 6'1 170 pound Stockton to 6'8 260 pound LeBron, who basically never got injured until he was 35+. Not making your point look any less stupid

You went with a white guy who is considered one of the best players ever instead of even smaller guys like Spudd Webb or Mugsey Bogues. Yes, you are a racist.

First tiny successful guy I thought of, the fact that you can think of several more examples of why you're wrong should tell you how stupid your point was
