The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Armchair is on ignore. He really doesn't contribute anything except post counts for those silly enough to reply to his moronic comments.

When there is nothing left for them to add and the insults are no longer interesting its just best to let them go. I love the insults until they are no longer any good, boredom sets in.

As far as the non-protest protest. Looks like some players are maybe doubling down. I love the comment, "Bye" that he makes. I hope he can back it up.

“And the fans that don’t want to come to the game? I mean, OK. Bye. I mean, if you feel that’s something, we’re disrespecting you, don’t come to the game. You don’t have to. No one’s telling you to come to the game. It’s your freedom of choice to do that.”
Exactly, my homie.

Nothing like throwing a five gallon bucket of gasoline on the stupid fire.

Yea, all of this is quite entertaining. The thing is, he is absolutely correct. The problem is, he might as well change his uniform number to #0, because that is the percentage chance he will have of ever getting a Marketing job. Most of the players have very little to lose, as most NFL players don't play for long. It will probably effect their pensions at some point. The ones in the box or hook are the owners, Trump did a number on them. The TV broadcaster are the ones feeling the pinch now and have been, that will continue... it will eventually flow to the owners then the owners will squeeze the players in a few years.

This guy has very little to lose -- well, up to the point where if the owners make him stand. Than he loses big time as a person like Chris Jackson did. imo

Some of these guys have forgotten where their money comes from.

You aren't joking -- the owners should have known last year to squash this stupid stuff.

Don't worry Cam Newton is starting his own protest this week, I'm sure that will make it all better. Probably get some white kids on the field and start coddling them as a show of unity. He's so serious up there -- can't wait to see him solve these problems.

You bozo's can hope against hope, the NFL is going to be fine.

Hillary was going to be fine too, I bet. I never predicted it would collapse, it will be fine short/medium term unless the anti-trust exemption is pulled... the broadcaster will continue to lose big time. Right now, the only reason the NFL is "fine", is they have long-term contracts.... the sports broadcaster are not "fine".

Of course, until the taxpayers wake up, they continue to get welfare checks even though they are millionaires and billionaires. That's something to be proud of.

You're an owner, where does your money come from? Basement printing press?

The teams money comes from lots of places including television deals, sponsorship's, merchandise deals and ticket sales. The owners are typically captains of industry that have personal wealth outside of the "team."

Believe me, there are waiting lists for PSL's for most franchises - if one person decides not to renew, there are plenty of people who will happily step up and purchase them.

This is a blip on the radar, this will blow over and you won't even remember this when the SB rolls around.

Its not a blip, that is why ESPN has had to start cutting... you are in a clear downward trend. That was before all this even started -- its just about how much the owners lose at this point and how much future players lose. Whether they have lost is already known -- how much is yet to be determined.

The NFL has TV revenues pledged thru 2020. Basically the NFL's money is in the bank. The networks would have to break the contract if ratings go down. I would expect lawyers are salivating over this right now!

Overall this is good for America. Families can find something to do together on Sundays!

Everybody has chosen sides in this debate. Now.....what are some solutions?

Trump is doubling down - makes things worse
Players seem entrenched - makes things worse

The power lies in the NFL to fix this problem while supporting their players at the same time.

I think kneeling BEFORE or AFTER the anthem takes away the argument of disrespecting the anthem, while at the same time expressing their freedom of speech. Fans that have a problem with that are showing the issue is not about disrespect to the military, flag and country. Their issue then is that they disagree that there is a problem with our justice system.

ESPN is being squeezed because people are moving from subscription TV like Dish, Direct TV and Comcast to internet based content delivery or OTA tv. When people "cut the cord", the revenue of the content providers is likewise cut.

ESPN spent too much money on television rights, but that was a leadership failure. You're conflating this NFL issue with something wholly different.

Also, I've reached my quota of paying attention to you today.

I agree with you for the most part. They can't keep it up for long and I would bet there have already been some locker room meetings about toning it down. I'm guessing here but I'd bet ticket/psl sales are not their top sources of revenue. My guess is TV contracts and merchandise, if the ratings go down the networks will be quick to want to renegotiate.

As for the owners and their "personal wealth" these guys didn't become billionaires by sinking their personal wealth into losing propositions. They aren't going to put their own money up to fund "protests" they'll just end the protests.

Nothing has changed since the players/owners did their grand standing on Sunday and took the bait. Trump put the NFL in a box, the players are irrelevant at this stage.

This is the problem -- them standing at this point probably just makes it worse as then the fans will label them cowards.
