The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Alejandro Villaneuva, he's a tackle for the Steelers. Was a Ranger, has received the Bronze Star and did 3 tours in Afghanistan. He apologized because I guess he felt he alienated his teammates, but I still don't think he should feel guilty for doing what he did.

You can't change how he feels just because you don't like it, man.

link?

Exactly what are they protesting?

Against perceived injustices?

For racial equality?

Against police brutality?

Against Trump?

Because, in reality, if it was the injustices, equality or brutality, why wasn't this started when Kap first did it?

Be very careful in your answer...

Why does it matter? The question is, can they protest in this fashion. Of course they can.

Ugh, the whole thing is just such a stupid debate.

I think it was going just as it should until Trump tweeted against the NFL, players, and owners to change the narrative as un-American.

I think he is just asking the questions to make them possibly realize why people are not buying it, he is not implying they can't do it. And yes, in the end all this talk is meaningless.

I agree with you for the most part, however I really don't think there is a debate per se.

:eek:lol: Make it stop!! What is with all the coddling, don't they feel on each enough during the game.

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers urge fans to lock arms for the national anthem at Lambeau Field

“Those of us joining arms on Thursday will be different in so many ways, but one thing that binds us together is that we are all individuals who want to help make our society, our country and our world a better place,” the players said in part in the statement. “We believe that in diversity there can be UNI-versity. Intertwined, we represent the many people who helped build this country, and we are joining together to show that we are ready to continue to build.

trump escalated this into a much larger story then it would have ever been.

The question is "did he do this intentionally?"

If not, then he is a dotard.

If so, why? The obvious answer to this question is that he thought he would gain politically. and he's still a dotard.

I cannot say this is true, but my understanding from news reports is that the weekend prior to Trump's comments, 6 players did this.

6

Had he kept his fat mouth shut, it would have faded away as the non-issue it is. Ironically, Trump CAUSED more such protests, but a huge number, by complaining about it.

And he and his numbnuts supporters have the temerity to say it is the players creating the divide on the issue. Pure idiocy.

It does not matter WHY they do it. They can. If people pay attention, fine, if not, fine. The only reason 99 % of the people paying attention to it right now are doing so is because Trump had to go and make it about him.

He even bragged about it at dinner this week. But isn't that always his way?

This is why you shouldn’t be taking social cues from those paid to throw hit or kick a ball.

They are making it too easy. I tuned out (generally) pro sports a few years back when a friends said something like, "you still watching those grown babies wearing tights run around on a field of grass, man hugging each other". Although, I had problems with pro sports, that hit me like a ton bricks.

I started saying that to people, if we were out drinking ... usually strangers and I would smile. Most of them would stop watching the game, and you can just sit there see them thinking of how ridiculous it all is.

If they want to discuss the WHY, they can as well.

I believe Trump gave them bait...they took the bait.... its really about their egos at this point. Just my take.

That's the way I saw it also. The players were doing their thing with a little coverage then WHAM! Trump uses this to sow more division. Like pack trolls they take to social media armed with rage.

So in other words, Trump got more Americans talking about inequality and race relations.

You’re welcome America.

Funny, I bet you there isn't an owner saying he is dotard right now. He got them and he got them good. If you don't know who the joke is on right now, hmm, you might want to think harder.

That is not an apology, it's just a "my bad" for making his teammates look bad. It is not a forced apology for standing, which is what "had to apologize for standing for the anthem" implies.

You read whatever you wish into this, but he felt the need to apologize for standing for the Anthem while the rest of the team did not for a reason.

And I say this as someone who feels players have every right to stand or not stand for the Anthem.

You have to be kidding me, this is about the only thing you hear every day from the NFL is this Anthem stuff. It did get worse after Trump opened his mouth, but please don't pretend this clown show has been going on for a while.

I feel your rage flowing. I guess it has been building in you for awhile.

Seems like every time Trump opens his mouth or tweets he makes things worse.

Make it freaking stop!!!!!! :eek:lol: My stomach.

Trump is in so many people's heads right now, instead of building a wall -- their going to have start building lots of asylums to house all of them.

"Well, maybe it's even uglier than that.* It does sound a little bit like he's saying 'control your dog,' 'control your dog' to the owners.* You know, you're supposed to tell these guys what to do."
*
"Now he says they're fearful of the players.* So he's setting up the ugliest kind of tension that he can.* And I know when you say 'control your dog' it has a lot of racial overtones to it.* So does this situation.* I don't know how you can look at it and say it's not racial."
