The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Players don't come out until after the Anthem.

It would be very unfortunate if a team named in honor of those who VOLUNTEERED to serve this country would protest in that way but that's the day we live in.

I think the NFL is going to get a wake up call on this thing.

People are still going to watch the NFL - claims that ratings are way down are fake news.

To the guy below: Ratings were up 3% this week - sorry to burst your bubble.

Dude - All TV ratings have been trending down the last decade as more people cut the cord - the NFL has seen their ratings fall slower than almost any other entertainment. Live NFL football is a ratings juggernaut.

except those claims aren't fake. viewership has been down.

To the guy above: Read practically every link about NFL viewership over the past 2+ years and see that viewership is down

Dude: use the QUOTE feature

Who cares....

It's part of being free in this country. The way we were set up to be. If you don't like something and there is enough of you inflict change.

Blind loyalty is dangerous. Blind obedience is even more dangerous.

I tuned out (generally) pro sports a few years back when a friends said something like, "you still watching those grown babies wearing tights run around on a field of grass, man hugging each other". Although, I had problems with pro sports, that hit me like a ton bricks.

I started saying that to people, if we were out drinking ... usually strangers and I would smile. Most of them would stop watching the game, and you can just sit there see them thinking of how ridiculous it all is.

This is really funny to me. You went through your entire life never thinking about how sports were just games, and then when someone told you once that they were, you were just like, "Oh! Whoa! Guess I'm changing my list of hobbies now."

They need to do that on their own time.

When I am at my place of employment what I do reflects on my employer and to the customers that my employer serves.

Their employer (... the NFL team and the NFL ....) needs to understand that many of the customers have rights to take their dollars elsewhere.

Wouldn't call it blind loyalty but it is respectful.

Cosign.

I never understood the obsession with blind "patriotism" by so many Americans. It almost feels like a form of mind control.

Beyond the obvious racial issues that are fueling this controversy. I think the fact so many feel that blind patriotism is a requirement to being a good American is mind-boggling.

The best patroit is the one who always questions and challenges his country. Not the one who blindly salutes the flag and acts like everything this country does is good.

While they aren't on the field for it, so it's a non issue, I personally would have no issue if they chose to stand or chose to kneel. Each can freely express their opinion, that's what makes America great.

Part of the greatness of America is the fact we have the right to be disrespectful to the flag if we choose to.

To require people to respect the flag or anthem goes against everything America is supposed to stand for. It makes us no different than countries like North Korea who we ridicule.

Sure there is nothing on the laws that says we need to respect the flag. But this sort of social pressure to try and force everyone to conform to a certain type of behavior when it comes to "patriotism" will make this country no different than North Korea.

and their employeer supports it, so what are you *****ing about? Hate that you don't support freedom of speech when it disagrees with you.

Well, here's one stat for you that is NOT fake news: I will not watch ANY NFL games this year at all and possibly never. I have the right to do my own protesting and that includes the right to not watch or contribute to the greedy NFL. If the players want to protest and highlight social injustice I support their right to do so, but to disrespect the flag & national anthem is not acceptable to me. You don't like this country then get your butt out--all the way out. They're spoiled & caught up in mob mentality. I'm a 21 year USAF Veteran & proud of it. No apologies are going to be satisfactory. For all actions there are consequences and I'm glad to contribute.
