The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Oh they know why these players are protesting. They are simply deflecting from the issue at hand cause its easier to pretend this is about the flag, the military, and patriotism when it's really about racial oppression. They don't want to discuss the issue of racism in this country cause they know it's a problem.

Every white person in America knows it's better to be white in America than it is to be black. They all know it even if they might never admit it.

Actually it is not just in America.

All these attention whore thugs protesting are what is going to be the downfall of the NFL and I hope they fold. Colin Kaepernick started this stuff and not 1 thing has changed since he started it. After these thugs gets done destroying the NFL then they will have to go out and get real jobs , which isn't going to happen.

Kaepernick was pretty clear. He is protesting the flag because the police force of this country is killing unarmed black men and are not being punished for it. The solution is actually holding police officers like that lady in Tulsa, Oklahoma that shot that unarmed black man with his hands raised on film. That was an unjustified killing and that officer was found not guilty. That is what people are fed up with.

I don't think this is very hard to understand.
Pro tip..don't get high on PCP and drive around.

You read whatever you wish into this, but he felt the need to apologize for standing for the Anthem while the rest of the team did not for a reason.

And I say this as someone who feels players have every right to stand or not stand for the Anthem.

What are you and OP talking about?

He didn't apologize for "standing", he apologized for making his teammates look bad. It's completely different, whether or not we ignore the "had to" part in OP's statement. He can stand in the tunnel with his teammates. What he's apologizing for, if we can even call it that, is alienating them.

Only 15 percent of whites surveyed thought those peaceful protests would advance the cause of integration and equality. Martin Luther King Jr. and his nonviolent methods are honored even by conservatives today, but in 1967, half of whites said he was harming blacks, with only 36 percent disagreeing.

In many respects, the country has changed a lot since then — partly because of those unpopular demonstrations. What has not changed is that whites generally resent organized efforts by African-Americans to raise grievances and seek change. Last year, a Reuters poll found that 63 percent of whites disapproved of NFL players kneeling during the anthem — compared with 17 percent of blacks.

But if you don’t like how Black Lives Matter pursues its agenda, you should welcome the NFL players’ approach. It’s silent; it’s not disruptive; and it’s entirely nonviolent. It doesn’t block traffic, occupy police or frighten bystanders.

Critics say it’s disrespectful to the flag, but no flags are harmed — and it could be taken as a form of respect for the flag to mutely signal your belief that the ideals it represents are not being realized.

That the display evokes so much fury and disgust among whites, from the president on down, confirms what was evident 50 years ago. The problem is not how blacks raise their complaints about American society; it’s that they raise them.

NFL isn't going anywhere anytime soon sparky.

The public should tell the owner to F off before funding their stadiums
Absolutely. I have never understood a city's willingness to do this and then pay many dollars to go inside during a game. It's insane. Tell the owners to **** off and if they want to leave, don't let the door hit you in the ass. THe only owner that I know of that paid for the building himself was Larry Miller in SLC. And I am not positive that SLC didn't pony up something later on.

Disagree. The article also paints with a very broad brush.

Disagree with what? That the majority of whites have always opposed black protests? That somehow this time it's different?

I grew up Mormon and many of my Mormon friends are freaking out about the disrespect to the flag and the troops, etc. I found a story from Mormon history where in 1885 the prophet had flags flown at half mast on the 4th of July to protest the US government's persecution of Mormons. The act incensed "gentiles" in SLC. Civil War vets stormed city office buildings and raised the flags.

The lesson learned here is that nobody wants to hear you gripe if they don't identify with your group and If you feel persecuted, whether it's by the criminal justice system, reverse racism, globalization, etc. you are going to feel justified in griping about America. "Make America Great Again" would have infuriated conservatives had it come from Obama, because it implies America is not great. Trump gets a pass because he's talking about making it better for middle America, so people identified with the message and were not offended.

Cosign.

I never understood the obsession with blind "patriotism" by so many Americans. It almost feels like a form of mind control.

Beyond the obvious racial issues that are fueling this controversy. I think the fact so many feel that blind patriotism is a requirement to being a good American is mind-boggling.

The best patroit is the one who always questions and challenges his country. Not the one who blindly salutes the flag and acts like everything this country does is good.
You haven't served have you.

Well, here's one stat for you that is NOT fake news: I will not watch ANY NFL games this year at all and possibly never. I have the right to do my own protesting and that includes the right to not watch or contribute to the greedy NFL. If the players want to protest and highlight social injustice I support their right to do so, but to disrespect the flag & national anthem is not acceptable to me. You don't like this country then get your butt out--all the way out. They're spoiled & caught up in mob mentality. I'm a 21 year USAF Veteran & proud of it. No apologies are going to be satisfactory. For all actions there are consequences and I'm glad to contribute.
Just remember that most of these clowns will be over at Kaperdick's house watching MNF in another 5 years or so. So unless they can brainwash the next few years' rookies this will go away too.

So, this is about black people again, I thought it was about police violence or something, or possibly an orange man. I have to admit, this is the most confusing game show I have ever been on.

Now that I think about, I can see where this really helps the typical black person -- rage on. Either way, I really wish whoever comes up with the questions on this game show would write the correct answer down so we know what to tell everyone, you know so that we are all on the same page.

Keep in mind all of these kids don't even have a fully developed frontal lobe as of yet, so I'm not real worried what they think because mostly, they don't know why they think it.

Its astronomically different this time around. If you can't see that people aren't outrage by the message or disagree with it, then your head is buried in the sand. A good majority of Americans would agree that law enforcement commits acts of brutality and excessive force. And that is what this protest is about. Now you are showing your outrage because a group of people being portrayed as ignorant, aren't as ignorant as you thought. Conservatives aren't heartless racists that the left and the media portray them to be. While some may be, not all are. Similarly, not all liberals are overly sensitized commies. Lumping people into groups is what is causing this mess in American politics. Heaven forbid anyone thought people could think for themselves and not toe the party line. You usually bring good posts to this forum.

Obamacare repealed failed again. The island of Puerto Rico is without power and Kushner & Ivanka both using personal email for .gov bitness. Meanwhile trumpo and his flunkies are bloviating about NFL ratings.

So?

Its not like they havent had a hurricane before. Island governmental mismanagement brought them to their knees in the face of a hurricane.

Nfl ticket sales down 18% this week. Last year it was down 11% after week 3.... add that tv ratings are down big time and they got a big problem. F em

Yes, but most of the longer term contracts will probably make it okay for now, bigger sponsors could withdraw but that hasn't happened yet... a ton of these people are never coming back. What will happen is the NFL will have to lock out the players in a few years, actually that was probably going to happen before this anyway.

The broadcaster are already losing tons, and have been for a few years... they NFL will be squeezed... and crap rolls downward to the players. The thing is... most of these players will be gone in 3-4 years and they have contracts... the next set of players won't be so lucky.

On this we agree. It's going to happen to all sports including college. T.V. deals are going to shrink more and more over time.
