The Tiger Woods saga

Anybody have an explanation why Tiger is too old to play golf now, when he birdied 1/3 of the holes in a tournament 2-1/2 months ago?

Because, as has been said numerous times, several injured golfers do such things. They get streaky hot for a week or maybe even a couple weeks, then the injuries creep up again.

You want to believe that Tiger had some sort of minor back surgery, when in fact he's had multiple major back surgeries and multiple left knee surgeries to go along with a torn left Achilles. It's tough to recover from just one of those injuries, pile all of them on and we have current Tiger. Who, again, is also 41 years old. I'll bet everything I own there's a couple more rounds in Tiger where he leaves everyone speechless, but there will be a lot more disappointments in between.

When Tiger first tried to come back on the scene after the scandal, he was very clearly head case. He was playing "golf swing" instead of golf. That is the only way to explain his horrendous short game, flubbed chips, and cold-topping fairway woods. Brandel Chamblee can be a smug, annoying guy but I believe he is correct when he says that Tiger's golf swing is the cause of a lot of his injury problems. He was constantly changing his swing and doing all sorts of incorrect things mechanically, which can easy cause a back injury.

It is pure speculation on my part with PEDs, but I think that could explain how he could go from being an elite athlete in his early 30s to being completely broken down and struggling with soft tissue injuries just several years later. His career trajectory has a lot in common with baseball players we know for a fact were juicing, and it happens in that late 30s age range.

I don't know how he is doing mentally now; probably better than several years ago, but now it appears he simply isn't physically able to play professional golf at the highest level. Now that he has gotten it figured out (at least partially) mentally, he can't physically compete anymore.

Sounds reasonable.

Edit: ....but I still think he is mentally (confidence) damaged from all the poor play and swing change confusion. He lost his mental edge.

Totally. As good of a player as he was, a certain component of his success was the psychological effect he had on his opponents. In a sport like golf where the mental factor is so important, that was a tremendous strength he had. He won many tournaments where the field just crumbled around him. He won all 12 majors either with the outright lead or tied for the lead going into the final round. He only blew one final round lead in a major - Y.E. Yang in the 2009 PGA Championship. Interestingly enough that was the last pre-scandal major he played in.

Tiger is a sympathetic (or pathetic, depending on how you feel about him) figure now. The intimidation, alpha dog factor he had is completely gone. Plus he just sucks.

Only weak because the 674th ranked player in the world isn't playing this week.

Nor does it include any of the top six players, only 7 in the top 20 and only 22 of the top 50. Yea, the field is weak only because of Tiger. You continue to out due your idiocy with each post. It's almost commendable

And age.

But to answer your question, it can't be a combo of the 3 because 72 is smarter than we are.
Just smarter than you, because I know that many golfers are very competitive through their 40's and into their 50's. Golf ain't football, basketball, or track.

No no, your idiocy knows no bounds, simply because you refuse to let simple facts get in the way of your biased narrative.

No, you're definitely an idiot.

But go ahead thinking the 6-10 you named some how trumps the hundreds who aren't, despite clear, factual evidence. We will just continue to laugh at you.
