The Tiger Woods saga

Just when you think he's out of the news....

Not going to throw stones because a lot of us have been in a car when we were borderline, but I never quite understand when it happens to someone high profile.

What an absolute train wreck. I can't think of a bigger fall from stardom ever than Tiger Woods

1a and 1b, IMO. At least Tiger's accomplishments won't be stricken from the record. Armstrong's legacy is completely disgraced after being on top of the world for years.

Crazy his fall from the peak. It's really been over since the moment his wife clubbed him in the head but it's taken a long time for everyone to start realizing it. Nobody has been Buster Douglas'd like Tiger Woods. Not even iron mike himself.

He was on a par with Peyton Manning coming out of college. He was the number 2 draft choice behind only Manning

But all his crap happened well after he was a bomb in the NFL. By the time his crap happened he was well out of the spotlight and was pretty much a punchline.

Woods and Armstrong's downfalls happened when they were at the top or at least very close after.

I think his downfall started earlier when his father died. Evidently he had some oats to sow after being governed so closely for so long. Guess he's not finished even now. Never catch Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer in this position.

Tiger's downfall is bigger, and it isn't even close.

Let's face it, nobody gives a s*** about cycling. Tiger exponentially grew the game of golf, but people actually played and watched the sport before he came along. Lance Armstrong is a totally irrelevant figure in his sport and in society at large today. Tiger, even after all these years, is still in golf conversations about if/when he'll come back.

Also, in cycling, they were and are all juicing. There are a ton of guys who have had their wins stricken from the record. Armstrong is just the most famous guy to have it happen to.

Same thing happened when Barry Bonds father and Mike Tyson's adopted father died. They both went stir crazy.

That happened way after his career was over.

There hasn't been, and probably never will be, a bigger downfall than Tiger.
What exactly are you calling a downfall? Back injuries, surgeries, or a drunk driving charge? Plenty of athletes have been injured. Plenty of athletes have been caught with drugs or driving drunk. What is the downfall?
