The (Unofficial) French Open Thread

Has anyone been? My fiancée is in Paris and wants to go tomorrow but the only seats not sold out are box seats, and they're like $1800 a pop.

I've looked online but can't find any from the reputable sites. It doesn't look like you can buy tickets on the French eBay either.

Are there scalpers there? Any other good sources for tix?

I've never been. Would love to one day, though.

Hard to believe that anyone but Rafa wins this thing this year.

I've NEVER seen Rafa dialed in like this. He's like a buzzsaw right now. Monaco is a good clay court player. He took a set off Djokovic in Rome. And then Rafa gives him a double bagel.

Rafa is winning this tournament, and he isn't dropping a set. Not even if he plays Djoker in the final.

What happened there? That didn't make any sense.

The normally consistent Li was off today. She sprayed balls, making unforced errors, and wouldn't take advantage of opportunities. Shvedova has game, but she shouldn't have won, much less dealt her a goose egg.

well my fiancee got tickets to the Women's Stosur/Cibulkova match. She's not a huge tennis fan, but is happy to say she's been.

Who wants to go on record with predictions?

1) Djoker vs. Tsonga

2) Fed vs. Delpo

3) Ferrer vs. Murray

4) Nadal vs. Almagro

I'll go:
1) Djoker in 4
2) Fed in 4
3) Ferrer in 3
4) Nadal in 3

Golf, is Stosur the only match her ticket allows her to see or does she get to stay and watch one of the men's matches? Every time I've been to a tourney, I could stay for half the day.

Cool.

I would love to go. I think I would prefer Roland Garros over Wimbledon. I think the red clay looks so awesome.

I would, but it would look EXACTLY like yours. :) Ferrer in 4 or 5 maybe..

Last time I went to the US Open, I bought a morning ticket, and then when the morning session ended and they funneled everybody out (so they could make sure you bought an evening session ticket), I just snuck -- snuck me and the girl that was with me* -- down to this bar on like the concourse level of Ashe Stadium and we ordered food and drinks and just sat there watching the match on the Louie Armstrong court until the second session fired back up and people started coming back in.

Then I snuck both of us down to way way way better seats for about 30 minutes and watched Djokovic whup up on James Blake. This was 2010, so Djoker wasn't quite yet in dominant form, but he was still a big name. And James Blake can't hit a backhand to save himself. It's embarassing. My backhand is better than his. That isn't hyperbole at all. My backhand is actually a good bit better than his. How he ever made it to 4 in the world is beyond me. Nevermind...not it's not. That was the really weak tweener era where Lleyton Hewitt and Roddick were the two best players in the world. Okay, that makes sense now.

All of this sneaking in pales in comparison to when I snuck in the player's lounge when I was 17 and sat down next to Anna Kournikova. That was definitely my best effort.

*Hold your criticism. I still got laid.

If Federer doesn't wake up, we might see a w next to DelPo after today.

Delpo can definitely win. Fed has Delpo's number this year, but Fed has also dropped sets in three straight matches to scrubs. Tough to know how much weight to assign to subpar performances against scrubs. Will be interesting. I do thnk Fed/Delpo is the best matchup in the quarters.
