The very stable genius had to be sequestered from nukes

We need specifics.

For example Milley might have said, look, the controls are in place. Even if you hear from your intelligence that Trump has gone full bore bonkers and is ordering an attack, its not that simple.so call me before it gets out of hand.

Nothing wrong with that.

Why was he calling in the first place?

It's not his job.

No one was hating on or even talking about Trump until GV brought up that Trump fired Esper.

But don't let me get in the way of your tilting at those windmills.
LOL. Put on those tap dancing shoes. The acting sec of Def has stated Milley never conferred with him but I'm sure you will tap, tap, tap around that also.

May well have saved your life and the lives of every person you know and love.

But I tell you what, I am fine if we trade: 1) Milley is forced out of his position and 2) Trumpnever runs again.

Deal?

I cannot fathom how ridiculously dangerous it is for there to be a CoC breach like this, especially with a near peer nuclear power.
Why you would use such hyperbole is such a reach.

He has a counterpart in China. I am sure that the Chinese were taking precautions in light of their worries, we knew that, and he prevented it from spinning out of control.

You know, it occurs to me that even if you were right and Milley did entirely wrong thing, that does not change the fact that Trump should not under any circumstances ever have power again, much less that power

Uh What?

You're the one who brought up trump firing Esper for <insert reason here> - I'm not sure how you think this factors into his ethical oversight over Miley prior to his termination.

Unless you're making the case that Esper ought to be in the hot-seat - I'm not sure what you're on about.

What cracks me up is that you guys are ready to crucify Miley and then look into whether it's true or not and if I'm not lathered up with rage over Woodward's revelations then Its because I'm a trump hater?

anyways...

I was referring to the DoD starting to run wild under Trump which ultimately led to Esper getting fired. I thought you had brought him up, but I might have been mistaken.

Anyway, I've said all along such a thing needs to be investigated and it was partially confirmed today with Miley's spokesperson saying he made the calls. Regardless, it's not his job to be calling his counterpart in China or anywhere else (if true) and telling them he won't confirm an attack order.

Trump has a counterpart in China as well. Such calls can and should be made between heads of state and not the sitting Chairman of the Joint Chiefs unilaterally calling the PRC Chief of Staff and guaranteeing anything.

Trump scares the living **** out of you lol

So funny.

I don’t see how this story is a reflection on Trump in any new or meaningful way.

There’s no indication Trump was actually going to nuke or attack anybody. The basis for that concern on the part of Milley, Pelosi, and the Chinese seems to be the same erratic behavior that we all saw in January.

You held this opinion before now, there’s nothing here to change your mind. If you didn’t, unless you’ve got a very high opinion of Milley’s judgment, what’s the new takeaway?

You can’t be serious. If true that Miley called Li, this is a big damn deal.

I don’t think they can get over that he may be the least militarily aggressive president many Americans have lived through. In 2016 after he won they predicted war with NK, China, and new wars in the Middle East and he didn’t do any of that.

So instead they have to act like he was some lunatic always on the verge of starting something.

I rode a tank
Held a generals rank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name

heard a couple things in an interview that I didn't know/not sure if the source is accurate.

The Joint Chief is not part of the nuclear launch protocol and does not command any troops/branch. Basically an administrator and go between from the command of various branches and the Sec Defense.

Also curious why Pelosi is contacting him and why he listened.

It actually is his job........oops

Army Col. Dave Butler, Milley's spokesman, said Milley's calls with the Chinese were routine and staffed by other agencies.

“The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs regularly communicates with Chiefs of Defense across the world, including with China and Russia," he said. "These conversations remain vital to improving mutual understanding of U.S. national security interests, reducing tensions, providing clarity and avoiding unintended consequences or conflict. His calls with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties. General Milley continues to act and advise within his authority in the lawful tradition of civilian control of the military and his oath to the Constitution.”

it is the content of the communications that's the problem.

Trump was impeached for the content of his communication; not that he was communicating.

Again we are awaiting details but if Milley did this partly at the behest of the Speaker and indeed said I'll let you know if an attack is coming I don't see how anyone can defend it.
