Are the Vols in the playoffs as of tonight?

No it’s not. Winning your conference should mean something. It does in every other sport. Division winners all qualify in pro sports.

If we were to lose a nonconference game, drop two SEC games, get to Atlanta via a tiebreaker, and win an upset to win the SEC, I highly doubt anyone here would be arguing to do away with the auto bid.
If you win the SEC, you have accomplished more than 99% of the teams in the country.

What we are seeing is the bias in college football that has always been since I have been a fan. First UT game 1969. Alabama 7th ND 6th. Please correct me if you think I am wrong.
I can take the orange glasses off and see it both ways. If we’re being honest Bama looks much better than when we played them. They can score on offense which is more than we can say for halves at a time. Their big win looks better than our big win. Their big loss is prob about the same as ours. The committee flat out said the eye test matters. They pass it right now, we don’t.

Use it for motivation.
Anybody (probably other than Bammer, because they’re Bammer) ahead of the Vols loses, and they should be in.
Use it to beat the piss out of UTEP and Vandy.
Bammer moved up 3 spots by beating MERCER.
Surely a hammering of UTEP would help.

And lost to Arkansas. And barely beat FL in overtime...
bama lost to Vandy
ole miss lost to KY at home...and a bad LSU team
ga got killed by ole miss, barely beat ky, and lost to the team we beat
tx got embarrassed by ga, squeaked by Vandy, and led Arkansas 13-10 midway in the 4th

Well, this is honestly better than I was expecting. I thought they would drop us pretty hard, like 15 or so.
Ole Miss has no business being ranked ahead of us. That Kentucky loss is terrible.

Don't wet the bed against Vandy, and I think we are in good shape to move up a spot or two. Chaos is a ladder.

I'm sure it's a rather unpopular opinion but I'm not even upset about being left out. The team shot themselves in the foot with the Arkansas loss. The SEC wins we have are basically down to the wire regardless of the team. We just haven't looked that impressive. If we get in, there are some teams we might be able to beat but it's not like a snub this year kept us from winning it all. This team isn't playing well enough to win it all.

That would carry more weight in my eyes if there were actually 3 or 4 SEC teams above us who had played solid seasons.
Every SEC team has played at least a couple of really crappy games.

The highest ranked team TN has beaten is #7 - bama
The highest ranked team miss has beaten is #10 - ga

The two losses for TN (Arkansas and ga) have a combined conference record of 9-6
The two losses for ole miss (KY and LSU) have a combined conference record of 4-9

KY has ONE conference win - at Ole Miss.

This one is the hardest for me to see any justification.
Agree. I also don't see how Bama is 2 spots above the rest of us. If that game is 5 more minutes, Georgia beats them.

If we win out, it’s likely we will move inside the top 10. Indiana has to have 1 loss or Ohio State will have 2 losses. Someone ahead of us from the SEC will have 3 losses, most likely. Or Texas will have two losses. Either way, 11 is pretty good place to be.

Before the Georgia game there were some saying that with a loss to Georgia we were absolutely 100% not in the playoffs. Now I guess they're saying they meant "not this week."
