The Walking Dead

I havent read the graphic novels, but something tells me he's going to be around for a while. I think there is genuine appeal to author to make a character extremely unlikable to the point where all you want is for them to get killed off. Only the author will run that idea into the ground just to annoy the readers, then give the hated character some 'way out' that makes his illustrious career of dumb-fudgery justified somehow. Seen it too many times. It's a tired cliche that works extremely well with long-running TV series.

If the Walking Dead had any semblance of realism, Rick would've shot Keegan ASAP instead of doing some dumb-arse countdown followed by a spray of shots that were aimed at the air. Also, that preacher guy would've died a long, long, long, long, long time ago if they intended to make this show realistic.
Keegan Bradley the 2011 PGA champion? He does play slow, so shoot him.

More easy opportunities to kill Neegan, and once again nobody does anything. I get that the writers want him alive for a while, but they shouldn't keep putting the guy that everyone wants to kill in situations where he can easily be killed by Rick or someone else, and have nobody even take a shot at him.

And the people that can headshot walkers from 50 feet away with a pistol, still can't hit anything with a rifle at the same distance.

The only reason I can think that Rick didn’t take a shot is he was trying to stall for their walker herd and didn’t want all the saviors filing out of the building before they could execute the plan. I also think he wants tofu ish it up close and personal.

Now Gabriel on the other hand.... he better have been out of bullets.

Yeah, if you don't want a character killed when it makes perfect sense for his enemies to kill him, don't put him in a position to get killed. You can write that scene differently so they don't have a clear shot on him. It's really not that hard.

Agreed...

However. I do think there is some logic to wanting the herd plan to go through to help thin out their numbers. Taking a shot at Negan would have put that plan in jeopardy. I doubt the rest just stand down if Negan is killed so they had to carry out the main point of the attack.

One thing that is grating on me about the writing is how much they try to get artsy with symbolism.

I don't think it's real. It's a tv show.

I never thought my Dad seemed old until he hit his 60's and 4 out of my Mom's 5 brothers look good in their 50's. Luckily, I have good genes.
I was joking. I think that I still look pretty good at my age, and it is genetic. Of course, I never smoked or drank (except college drinking) , or used drugs, but both parents lived a long time, and never really looked terribly old until they hit 90.

My mother worked full time until she was 91, and rarely sat down. My dad still mowed over an acre until he had a stroke at 90. Both were very active and mobile and kept their senses until the end. I consider myself lucky.

Think of Rick’s aging like how Presidents age in just one term. Stress can Age a person quick.

I watched most of this episode via Sling TV. I cut the strings awhile back. Anyway, I got to the part where they blew up the RV and the screen locked up. By the time I got the firestick rebooted and back on the show Neegan and Gabriel were in a room together and he's talking about poopy pants??? How did that happen?

When the shooting started Negan had fallen to ground level. Rick and Co were about to back off allowing the herd to meander in. As Gabriel was leaving he saw Greggory and begrudgingly got out of his car to save him. Greggory made a dash for Gabriel’s car and took off without him. Gabriel then retreated into the trailer where Negan had also apparently retreated into.

And Gabriel was unprepared. He left his ****ting pants at home.

What was the reason behind shooting out all the windows several stories up?

I was wondering about that too. Hoping to get some shrapnel kills? Making noise to attract the walkers? Just driving home the point that they are well armed? Not sure at all.

Gabriel reinvented himself into a likeable badass! Would hate for him to end because he pulled a Morgan.

There really was some truly weird and stupid sh*t in this season premiere. Old Rick walking around with a cane while Michonne and Carl look the same. Rick taking a Polaroid shot after they shot out the windows(a random nod to Negan's head bashing photos?). Where the hell were all the saviors and why was Rick's group shooting at an empty building? Were they just screwing with the audience when the guy fell off the tree perch and mysteriously landed on his back? Was that a nod at the terrible van flip scene?

I didn't keep up with when it was starting back (like I used to). We did watch it. Forty minutes in I looked at my husband and said "It's been on 40 minutes and literally nothing." Not impressed. Not sure I'll keep watching. Makes me sad cause I used to love it.
