The Weekly/BiWeekly School Shooting Thread

Why are we seeing so much mental illness these days compared to the past?
Why can't that be fixed? It's a pretty new phenomenon so I would think fixing it is doable.
The world is full of too many dumb pu$$ies now that are afraid and feel they need to resolve issues with a gun. Years ago a bunch dudes I knew planned a fight after school and set up a place to throw down. This one idiot brought a gun. His reasoning for bringing the pistol was just in case anything got out of hand. We told that fugger to go home so he left. Situations like that used to be the outlier imo. That was the only time I saw a kid brandish a weapon before a fight growing up. It is becoming too common nowadays for people to carry with the intent to harm out of fear.

We need to go back to letting boys be boys and not overreact when they have fights in school. Let them experience getting their butt kicked in elementary/middle school and use it as a teaching opportunity.

So we agree that it's a people problem and not a gun problem.

These mass shooters all have something in common and it’s a lack of a solid moral foundation regarding the sanctity of human life. They want/desire to hurt others and see them suffer so a gun just becomes the easiest tool to use.

If the kid’s father had not legally purchased that Sig a few days ago, unknowingly providing an easy tool, the kid could have just used a different tool to accomplish his goals with arguably a higher injury/death count.

So to be sure I’m understanding you agree there’s a push to limit school discipline but you believe it’s unrelated to race?

You do know the naacp has sued multiple school districts due to racial disparities in discipline right?
A push? From where?

From superintendents, school boards, admin, the naacp, the crt crowd, a large chunk of left wing America

Which part of any of this do you disagree with
I have not seen that. We certainly haven't encouraged any of our administrators to back off of discipline.
The biggest change to our approach is to be more defensible in a court of law.
We are at a point where every decision and action has to be viewed through the lens of "how would this hold up in court".
That has much less to do with the NAACP or any other left leaning group than it does with radicalized parents.

Any diverse school district has concerns with discipline and the related discrepancies. Perhaps you’re not in a diverse district.

less than 50% white, so yea, diverse

Then you’re just being dishonest. Every diverse district in America has these issues. You really don’t believe there’s a push within your school system for less discipline, less referrals, less, suspensions?

So your district is not implementing anything to address disparities in terms of discipline and grades?

Essentially the schools I’ve been at would make it as difficult as possible to do anything in terms of failing a student and/or disciplining a student. Especially if they had an IEP

Maybe we should teach kids that they are more than evolved goo and that life is important with meaning. I know that's so 200 years ago.

Special Ed is a whole different animal.

Special Ed is a whole different animal.

But it shouldn’t be. ADHD, oppositional defiance, or any other nonsense that’s diagnosed by a survey, entitles you the right to interfere with the safety and/or education of others

The issue here is parents aren't being parents and people don't understand right from wrong anymore. The dad purchased the gun and obviously left it out.
The gun needs to be secured and should not have been available to the minor. The kid posted it on his IG account. GUNS AREN'T TOYS! Dad should be chrged with murder as well. Let's add the fact mom and dad told the son not to talk and hired an attorney. I love my child but I'd tell them to squeal like a pig and they are going to prison for life. Same thing happened with that laundrie fellow, parents tried to cover for him as well.

Bankrupt the irresponsible with civil suits for criminal negligence.

How many kids have to die before common sense sets in? Disagree if you wish but obviously what we’re doing isn’t working. Arm these freaking schools! If we set a standard tgat when/if you shoot, you WILL see return fire, this crap will stop. Once again, gun control equals gun deaths.

One of the biggest changes is the public's loss of respect and support for public education. There has been a concerted effort over the past 30+ years by the right to portray public education (government schools as one idiot always made it a point to call them) in the worst possible light. As a result, respect for teachers and the educational process is at an all time low. The days of most parents siding with the school or believing the teacher are over. Today, the first response for many is to defend the kid and immediately accuse the school/teacher of some type of wrongdoing. Students know this and play it to the hilt. The degree to which students are able to manipulate their parents is astonishing.

No, it makes perfect sense. The 15-17 year old male is the most emotionally volatile creature there is. They also typically have zero coping skills.
This is what happens in the long term when the left stepped in on parenting way back when. Once they made it illegal to spank your kids, kids started raising themselves because they didn’t grow up with consequences. In turn, they grow up knowing right from wrong but lack the “care”.

Most (many) on the right have been conditioned to despise public education and undermine it in any way possible.
You see it in the PF constantly.
People on the right don’t despise public school. We despise the fact that you don’t teach “life” anymore. You only teach to “test” well. These kids can’t even sign their freaking name man! They have no idea how to take care of themselves when they graduate. They can’t balance a checkbook, run a household, cook, no shop or auto mechanics classes anymore. You’re leaving it to the parents to teach the things we grew up with. Don’t blame the right. Blame yourselves.
