The Weightlifters Thread

You hit the gym cause it's what you DO and who you ARE. Motivation not required. It is what it is. When you make that decision, you go about your business like brushing your teeth and filling your car with gas. It's life.

Is that off a motivational poster?

Don't you feel that way?

My kids know what I do. My husband knows what I do. It's what I do. It's not complicated.

There are some days I need motivation.

Also because I work out in the morning, so getting out of bed to go workout is sometimes tough

I get up at 5am to work out. Sometimes it's 5:30 before I get to the loft. But that's why I'm saying you make it part of your life. It isn't negotiable. It's like showering or brushing your teeth. It's routine, and it's what you do.

That's my approach anyway.

I remind myself that my wife could die in a fiery car crash and the quality of tail that I would want would increase dramatically if I wasn't an overweight slob.

Does that come across as shallow?

Im at the gym by 6. I need extra motivation in the winter when it's so damn cold here

I think there is something to alternate-day fasting. Not starving completely, but running a caloric deficit at around 1000-1200kcal (vary depending on your current and goal weight), and comprised mostly of fruits and veggies.

Is it normal that after my first week back from a week long break, I'm just as sore, if not more so than when I returned from a 6 month + hiatus?????

One I considered is a watermelon fast. 48 hours of nothing but watermelon.

Maybe he's partially paralyzed in that side of his body, but he wants to keep lifting, because it's all he knows. Maybe the WTF in the gym guy is autistic. I try not to judge.

Some of them are just downright hard to watch, though. Like the homeless cracked out lady on the smith machine.

You are right, some of those are hard to watch. Thrasher, about you abeing sore: are you eating enough to have your muscles recover? Also, you might want to decrease the volume for each muscle. Smaller body parts do not need that many sets. I have no idea what kind of volume you are doing, just throwing it out there as a suggestion. Hope this helps. You want to be sore, but not where you can't move.
