The Weightlifters Thread

So, I'm trying to focus on upper body strength and trying not to put on too much bad weight, or lower body weight. I'm trying to train for rock climbing season, and every pound I gain that isn't contributing to upper body strength is going to be an additional pound I have to pull up the rock.

Would it be detrimental if I ate a crap ton of calories within the 4 day stretch during and a couple days after my chest and back workout, and then tapered off to a lower calorie intake over the weekend.

I know it's been said that muscle recovery takes approximately 72 hours. Is this the main period of time that muscle growth occurs, or am I going to need those calories over the weekend for continued muscle development?

For instance, I workout chest on Monday, back on Tuesday, then legs Wednesday, arms Thursday. I would do forearm workouts Mon/Tues, bis/tris are less important to climbing than back, forearm and even chest. So I eat my 3000+ calories Mon-Thurs, then taper down to 2000-2500 Fri-Sun. Is this a normal diet? I always hear about people just eating anything and everything all week during a bulk. I want to maximize strength, but will cut down calories for the weekend if it won't hurt strength gains considerably.

I'm starting to think you're just a sissy as much as you complain about being sore.
:)

Not complaining. I love it! Just noting side effects. It could be I'm more sore because it's allowing me to push my muscles further, which has been an effect noted online, though I don't know if usplabs actually claims it.

Legs on Monday has drained me significantly. It's embarassing but I fell down the last two steps yesterday morning. LOL. First time for everything. Chest and triceps this evening.

I don't think it claims to increase strength gains, but it helps to tone. I'm happy now and the only thing I've changed in my diet is no alcohol during the week. I consume about 2700-2800 cal per day and lost the love handles. Now 6'1" 178 lbs prob around 9-10% body fat. I'll check it tomorrow.

11.4% body fat. I was a little optimistic.

11.4% body fat should never be described like it's a consolation prize, lol. Unless you're competing as a bodybuilder, 11.4% is perfect. Congrats bama.

congrats, lyls. Don't push it coming back.

How is walking after the surgery? IIRC, it's no simple task. Unfortunately, I had so many surgeries during that point in my life that I get them mixed up sometimes

Walking, taking a dump and getting out of bed suck.

hernia, iirc. Baker, you're ripped. I heard your wife is hot. Congrats on both.

Thanks. Life is good. I credit the fact that I'm married, but have no kids. I didn't find time for the gym when I was single. I wonder how badly kids would ruin my wife, and my gym time.
