The Weightlifters Thread

Boooo. I used to skip legs and back all the time, but I'm proud of myself. This time around, in the past 3 months, I've only missed one workout. And that was just arms.

It's so easy to skip legs, because nobody sees anything but your calves. I've been really good about hitting legs for the last year and a half.

I disagree. I suffer from chicken legs, and it's nice to be able to fill out a pair of jeans.

I've got a few pairs of straight leg jeans that I need to donate to goodwill, because they are now skinny jeans.

Just that it's nice to blast chest on Monday, and then hit it again on Thursday with a lower intensity workout during arms day. If I did push/pull, I'd only get chest once a week. Same with bis/tris. Now I hit pretty much every muscle group specifically on one day, and then hit it again at least one other time in the week at a lower intensity.

I don't know what the official bodybuilder definition of the term "overlap" is. I just say the words that I come up with. lol

And where do deadlifts fit in a push/pull split? You could realistically put them on any day. I guess it wouldn't really fit with push, but definitely with pull or legs. I would probably do them on pull with the rest of my back lifts.

You hit everything twice in a pull/push split.

Working out went out the door once I left high school and playing a sport every season. Only at 5'10 and 170lbs but really could use some muscle again and could stand to lose 10 pounds

Any suggestions for getting back into it?

Start slow. Most people jump in with too much ambition, get frustrated and sore, then proceed to quit. It's like riding a bike, just keep pedaling. I would start lifting 3 times a week (M,W,F with off days in between), splitting lower body and upper body until you shake off the rust.

Push/Pull to start, like Chavis is talking about. I wouldn't jump right into it starting with heavy detail. Keep it fairly simple for the first month or so.

I completely agree. Do a M,W,F split. Also just focus on compound exercises IMO

I'm doing my own thing on diet since I'm still mostly vegetarian.

Gotcha. The no dairy, no alcohol, no cheating is rough with his diet. It's been tough but it seems to be working really well for me right now. If the results weren't there I would scrap it. Good luck with the plan. Keep us posted on your results. :hi:

For those who use powder, are any of the offerings at Walmart worth a can of beans or should I look elsewhere when I'm ready to add that to my diet?

Really? No dairy? What's his reason for that?

Was reading the Men's Health Weight Loss Guide while on the overnight shift and they preached dairy like none other

The only dairy I use is skim milk or low fat cottage cheese. Any other dairy just has too much fat. Also, the powders at Walmart are not worth a damn IMO. Go to bodybuilding.com and look for Optimum Nutrition whey protein, its one of the best on the market.

I guess it depends on what kind of fat. Monounsaturated is the fat you want to eat but I have no clue if dairy products are made of that kind
