The Weightlifters Thread

If you're new to lifting or coming back from a long hiatus (2-3 months or longer) then a simultaneous bulk/cut is doable for 4-6 weeks typically.

Cheers to making some progress.

My hands are still raw from climbing but I'm off for upper body push anyhow.

Milo, it has two phases. One is a bulk for 15 weeks. The other is a cut for 12. I'm debating which one I want to do at this point. I just cut 30 during the summer and I'm holding there. I could go further or bulk for the winter. Decisions, decisions.

With weight lifting, I'm a traditionalist. Bulk then cut

How much do you bulk? I'm convinced from what I've seen and read that in the old days they all trained fairly lean. It was definitely a bulk/cut process, but Arnold was probably cutting 30 lbs at the most (so for me that'd probably be 15 lbs or so).

Arnold, Franco, Zane, and all the guys who trained lean definitely have a different look to their muscles than the guys that bulk 70-90 lbs.

Things are definitely different with diets, supplementation and steroids but I think the underlying principles have changed little in 40 years.

Both bulking and cutting are less refined now whereas body building used to incorporate more sculpting but little has really changed with the foundation IMO.

As for me, I find myself in the minority at the gym since I'm definitely on the endomorph end of the scale. When I'm really on my p's and q's about a clean diet, I can get to a lean 230lbs (5'10.5") without breaking a sweat in around six months.

I like beer and tasty food too much. :)

A lean 230? How lean is that? Arnold's prime he was 6' 2" 240 lbs, and he was at like 8%.

Are you talking like 12% or something?

Lean for me, yes. 12-13% keep in mind I go by calipers which can be off.

That's when I was spending hours a week planning my diet with zero cheat meals for months on end

I've been out for 6 months trying to get back in. I've put on fat but kept muscle. Any tips or suggestions?

Did legs. Feel great right now. Tomorrow, maybe not..

Switched to a wider stance for squats to hit the hammies, and booty more.

Good to do that.

Had such a good set of bouldering sessions that I canceled my 24 hour fitness membership and switched to that.

I have free access to another weight room any how. Not as good but it will do

I've been on a pretty intensive hammy workout for 4 weeks. My quads are overly dominant and my hammys are too weak. Therapist has me on a 12 week program to stretch & strengthen to balance me back out. I've been this way for years after several hamstring injuries in highschool. I gotta say, I've got a really high pain tolerance, but this ish hurts!
