The Weightlifters Thread

I've been struggling regaining my strength after breaking my thumb and tearing ligaments in my left hand. I figured it would be a tougher journey, but it has been 6 months now and I can't seem to get back into it.

I'll be a senior next season and; as a DIII football player with obviously no NFL/post-college football opportunities, want to be at my best form for my last year of competitive tackle football.

Was looking for any recommendations on ways to regain strength and regain weight at a faster than normal pace. Obviously no steroids or anything of that kind as I'm drug tested and don't really want to go through that any way.

But any tips on eating/diet habits, supplements, workout routines, etc. would be very helpful. Thanks In Advance.

Eat a lot haha. Track your calories by using myfitnesspal. If you are not gaining weight then increase calories by 100 on a weekly basis. Workout wise, I would hit everything 2x a week.

Well if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all....yall know about my knee....well it got better then I got the flu....so that wad at least 3 Mor weeks out....then I got better and was starting to run and lift to lose some of this weight I gained....was going great for 2 weeks...feeling good, starting to practice softball with work and then BAM!.....guy ran a stop sign and Tboned me in my drivers side door....went to ER and had a slight tear in my muscle over my shoulder blade BUT a lot of soreness...this happened on April 7.... still stiff on left side and have occasional headaches....seeing a lawyer on May 1.... so maybe I can get better and start back.....

Also, 5 x5 is a great strength workout...make sure if u get all reps of every set u start the next weeks lifts at the weight of ur 3rd set....push yourself

that's rough man. Good luck and get better! it's annoying when stuff out of your control gets in the way of stuff (like lifting)

That sucks, here is to a fast recovery!

you guys need to recruit this poster to your thread

I have ask this over and over about most recruits over the last 5 years do they ever lift weights .There has been just a handful in that time that has impressed me. Most guys I look at can barely bench more than they weigh and can not squat very much either. you would think that there would be some country strong guys or something . I did not play football after my freshmen year because it was a waste of time cause I do not like to loose and my freshmen year we lost at Webb 7-6 and lost 4 or 4 more by less than 10 and Gatlinburg Pitt beat us by 25 we won 3 games. I did not think that I was big enough to play in collage at 5"11 180 but last time I spent in weight room was beginning my senior year and I was benching 385 5 times squatting 700 coaches would not allow me to try more than that but I was leg pressing 1000 pounds and I walked around the weight room with 500 pounds for 5 minuets at a time stepping up on my tip toes. and I ran a 4.6 -4.7 40 and to see 6,5 265 pound guys benching 325 and squatting 425 is pitiful to me I could reach down and grab 300 pounds and lift it as far over my head as my arms could reach. Guys like big Dan Williams impressed me though.

Lmao. I didn't know we had any five star recruits on volnation. Who complains about an 18 year old benching 325? I was only at 315 my SR year, even now I'm only at 360.

we all have bragged a little in our posts but...DAAAAMN....this guy takes the cake....its so outrageous that it maybe true....lol....who in their right mind would make that up with those numbers....I will neither admit nor deny that I have sampled some roids:) and still I haven't gotten to 700 in Squats....sheesh...

and also....how in the hell do you walk around the weight room with 500 pounds for 5 minutes....was he carrying two 250 pound guys on his shoulders....good lord.....

Everybody here is getting lazy! (either not lifting or not posting about it. I assume/hope it's the latter).

Did mainly upper body today, pushups, pullups, more shoulders, chest stuff

Not posting about it haha. Just started Sheiko 29 today, running 29, 37, & 32 (two prep cycles, then a comp cycle). It has some accessory work but focus on the big 3 lifts.

I've been lazy. I worked out 5x week for like 4 years, then I got a friend who I've been training. He's not that dedicated and I started bailing when he'd bail, so I was probably going 2-3 times a week. Getting back into it, though.

Had hernia surgery about 4 weeks ago and then went on vacation. Yesterday was my first day back in a month. I am sore as ****, but didn't lose any strength. At least not much. I did the same weight and reps that I did on my last workout. I'm just 3x as sore this morning.

Been trying something different by doing sets in a certain amount of time. (Example) I would do 4 sets of 10 reps in 3 minutes to cut down on rest. It has been going well mixing up number of sets and reps. It makes me get out of the gym at a decent time and I get a really good workout.

Weighted pull-ups 3 sets of 8, 30 pounds

Reverse flys 3 sets of 8 35 pounds

Bicep curls 3 sets of 8 35 pounds

Had to cut my workout short due to an awards night at the local school.

Any tips on either reducing soreness or speeding up the recovery? I've been lifting consistently for almost 5 years, and my Friday/Saturday lift combo has my quads so sore. I am used to being sore, but I'm surprised after almost 5 years of Cfit and olympic lifting that I'm getting so sore.

Proper rest and protein is the most simple advice I can offer.

I'm in Tempe. Where do you work out at?
