The Weightlifters Thread

I tried JYM after I heard a lot of good reviews but I must say I was disappointed with it. My top 3 would be C4, Assault and Nitraflex in no particular order. Anyone tried the new ON gold standard pre?

Body chemistry is different. I like the C4 orange, it tastes great.

Jym only uses caffeine as a stimulant, which for many Americans isn't good enough because on average we consume a ton of caffeine.

I also add CLA, Barleans brand. It makes a huge difference in my energy levels.

If I feel hungry, I will eat breakfast before I go to work. This is what I eat.

180 g EggBeaters, 1 egg, 28 g fat free cheese, 40 g oats, 12 g of peanut butter or 1/2 a banana and cinnamon for flavoring the oatmeal.

I typically eat one Nature Valley Oats n Chocolate bar on my break

6-8 oz. of grilled chicken, 44 g of brown rice, 25 g lentils, 2 servings of Teriyaki sauce/Sweet Baby Ray's sauce for lunch

2 scoops of whey plus 2 bananas post workout

4-8 oz. of some type of meat, 2-3 vegetables (1 of which is a green)

I fill my remaining macros with whatever I can get. I usually consume a serving of peanut butter and some fruit

I don't drink anything with caffeine in it unless it's preworkout. It upset my stomach more than anything.

Breakfast: Suja Juice, 2 boiled eggs, Cottage cheese

Lunch: 2 tuna packets, protein shake, almonds

Dinner(post workout): Chicken breast, brown rice, broccoli

How many grams do you consider low and how many do you consider high? Also do you cycle to where your low and high carb days are workout days and no carb days are off days?

Low carb days I try to shoot for at least 50 grams but no more than 125-150 grams. High carb days are around 300 grams if not more. I haven't done much carb cycling before so I'm still tinkering with it.

I try to make my carb days my workout days and no carb off days but it's not really consistent since my workout days/times are always changing. I go 5/6 times a week with 1 day off usually.

I'd like for some of us to share our meal plans, in hopes that I can find a recipe you use that I like:

Breakfest: Oatmeal with some applesauce and peanut butter. Either a banana/apple too.

snack during the day is usually some kind of nut, even thought I hate them I know they are better than whatever chips or stuff I used to get.

Lunch: generally chicken, around 8oz. Macaroni, spinach, and yogurt on the side.

Dinner: any kind of meat (fish often) sometimes chicken again lol. Brown rice, and however much fruit I want until I go to bed.

This is my ideal which i try to stick to. But I fail a few times a week for sure. Sundays are never like this and its too damn tempting to grab fast food a few times a week. But I've done this for the first week of the year or so and feel good about it.

I've been off my diet for the holidays, but I had an awesome thing going. Lost 18 lbs and felt like I was eating like a king, just had to grill a lot. To lose a lb a week I needed to do about 1900 calories a day. On a typical day I would get that, plus about 200 grams of protein. This is pretty much what it looked like:

Protein bar
Coffee w/ cream
Eggs
Coffee black
Tuna wrap (whole wheat)
Chicken
Chicken and broccoli
Choc. pretzels
Turkey burger (sriracha, onion bun, pepperjack, spinach)
Chicken
Hershey's dark

Once you count out all the calories, you will be surprised at all the cheating you can get away with. That's enough food and variety to never be hungry, and it's a significant amount of weight loss.

Anyone ever tried a sugar fast? Zero intake for 30 days?

It's near impossible. Talking about processed sugar, not what occurs naturally in fruit.

I don't even have a sweet tooth and thought that it would be easy but it kicked my butt the first week. Constantly cranky and I was craving a Coke big time.

After about 10 days I noticed a clarity in my brain, possibly due to better sleep, and greater energy levels. I dropped 2 points in body fat, down to 9.6%.

I haven't but had a buddy of mine do it and he said it benefited him as well too. I definitely enjoy a coke but do my best to limit myself to one per week. Sugar is deadly.

hahah...I would make yall sick if I posted what I eat...

yall are making me hungry bc there is no way that little bit of food would suffice for me lol

btw, I just ate 20 wings from BWW...10 desert heat and 10 parmesan garlic.

Last night was my wife's birthday, so I totally cheated. Mongolian beef, egg rolls, and I think I counted 17 pieces of sushi...

What's your age? I used to eat about 8000 calories a day when I was about 17-19. I ate almost non stop all day. But I was really active. I have a hard time now even comprehending eating that much. I feel like I eat normal now and I'm still around 3000 calories per day.

When I was 20 I was in a nutrition class and working at a donut/breakfast sandwich place. I could eat and drink whatever while at work. I had to track my inputs for 3 days, and the 2 days I worked my calories were at like 11k and 12k.

I absolutely cannot do calf raises without getting ridiculous cramps in my calves and subsequent pain that ends my workout. It's the only muscle that ever cramps, and it's pretty much every workout.

What can I do for my calves? Are standing calf raises better than seated? I do seem to cramp less, but I also feel less isolation on my calves.

For now I've just stuck with low weight and done like 20 reps, and it seems to work. I just worry that it's not enough to see any results.

I'm 38...but as you know, I do powerlifting and not bodybuilding. I have much respect for you guys with your self control on eating. I'm 5'11" 320, going to compete this year btw 295~305. I have cut my portions waaaay back. I would normally eat 40 wings :)

Sub 10%

I'm sitting between 16-20% right now based on my experience using the Bod Pod and hydrostatic weighing. I'm starting my cut soon and hope to get down to 10-12%

I've been doing a light weight high-rep golf workout for the last few weeks. All the sudden, for the last week my right bicep has been twitching. It started off slowly but now it is to the point of twitching nearly all day, like it's gotten worse or something. It's my lower bicep. It doesn't hurt but man it is annoying. You can see my whole bi just jumping sometimes. I've googled & googled trying to find out what's wrong. Has this happened to anyone else? I may end up having to see a neurologist.
