The "what album are you listening to now" thread...

KidB, i would say that hes got lupe in the entertainment category, with lupe winning the lyracist category. They are two od my fav's. Lupe will give you more double meanings. You can listen to a Lupe song and if your not careful, youll be left scratching your head sayin, "wtf was he talking about".They both have some crazy lyrics.
on magic after the mindfreak line-
"so come one come all, and see the show tonight; prepare to be astounded; no ghost or poltergyst (sp); u kno im no pinnochio i neva told a lie; so call me mista magic man i float on cloud nine."

"cloud nine" line is a reference to his first mixtape with the same title.

Also, props to eminem for using the line "you're thinking like an alien..." on his verse in Airplanes pt. 2. That was an obvious nod to Bobby Ray's propensity for rapping about pretty much anything and everything not tied to ground earth: satellites, airplanes, stars, clouds, ghosts, 5th dimensions, planets, etc.).

He doesn't use auto-tune. In fact, he makes fun of those who do.

YouTube - B.o.B----- Auto Tune-----Spoof (Funny)

And his singing is highly overrated if you're comparing him to like Marvin Gaye or something. But if we're talking about rap artists, I think he's the cream of the crop in the voice category.

Regardless, it's cool if you're not feeling the guy. I'm not taking it personally. His songs did stick with me -- from the very first time I heard them -- but I obviously don't expect everyone to have the same reaction. Music is highly subjective, and it wouldn't be very interesting otherwise.

Ever listen to Quan? How about Cee-Lo? Cream of the crop, I think not.

I wasn't saying that he used auto-tune...guarantee that he uses pro-tools.

I like him, but you and Krush are acting like he is the best that hip/hop has to offer and that is just a farce.

Here's one for the hip-hop lovers.

He is the best thing hip hop has to offer right now, in my humble opinion. At the very least, he is the best up-and-comer hip hop has to offer right now. And if you disagree with the previous sentence, I'd like to hear who else you'd offer up.*

I was pretty much ready to throw in the towel on hip hop -- it was really really bad there for a couple years: more auto-tune? more patron? more swag? mom, make them stop! -- but Mr. Simmons has brought me back to the outer edges of the fold.

*Other than K'naan. I'll agree in advance that K'naan would be a reasonable offering.

What is it that makes him so special?
His delivery is ok, his writing ability is so-so, I'll admit that he is somewhat unique in the fact that he doesn't sound like everyone else.

But he isn't innovative to the point of being game changing...sounds like he is heavily influenced by OutKast and Goodie Mobb.

I never said he wasn't talented...but there are much better artists out there.

Who's better? And who's more of a game changer as of today?

Criticizing an artist for using Pro-Tools in the production of their music is 100% ridiculous. It's the industry standard. Everyone uses it.

I wasn't criticizing him for it, I know everyone uses it, and it is a big reason why music sucks IMO...anyone can sound good with pro-tools, that was my point.

What isn't true?

That it can make anyone sound good. Well, I suppose it make any instrumentation or voice sound good. But it most certainly can't fix the actual music.

And Bobby Ray is a breath of fresh air with the hip hop world. Man can sing well, play guitar, piano, and rap. Dude is talented.

That is my point, it can make anyone's voice sound good...being able to carry a tune and strum a few chords doesn't make you talented...he has talent but some of you are acting like he is a virtuoso on the guitar or piano or that he can belt it out like Anthony Hamilton.

The ability to put it all together is what makes the guy special.

I guess I just don't get all the hoopla...I've listened to his latest album and it just seems average to me.

Like I have said, his writing ability is average, his delivery sounds like Big Boi, his singing ability is vastly overrated and that is putting it lightly.

I did like some of the stuff he did on the guitar and piano, if it is really him.

I know I am coming down hard on the guy in this thread, just stating for the record that I like him, I just don't think he is that great...the potential is there though.
