The whole black coach issue

Actually I don't know who the hell you are to determine whether or not you were joking so I responded. I will respond to any idiotic comment if I don't know at the the time it was a joke. Now I know but I wont stop responding to any comments on this board especially the borderline racist ones. Have a nice day.

Oh, and just as a reminder, your original post told me it was a 'poor attempt at humor'. You knew it was humor; you just apparently didn't get the connection between Jewish people and the term 'kosher'. Slow down, chill out and don't be so quick to play the 'idiot' card. It can come back and bite you by showing just who's lagging behind after all.

It wouldn't be that important, and I've raised my kids to believe the same. But, that's me. There are other parents who think different.

This is what's needed. Level headed parents regardless of race. They as parents should want the best education and opportunities avaiable for their child regardless of what color a coach or teacher may be.

I hate that its 2013 and race is still a damn issue. Granted times have changed a great deal but it still seems to be a issue for some.

White, black, red, yellow, green, purple it doesn't matter, how about you EARN what you get, and not because of one's skin color! I just want to see the BIG ORANGE back on top...white coach, black coach, green coach, it doesn't matter to me, just WIN!

But absolutely NO Methodist allowed

A black coach may have more in common with black athletes than white coaches, and recruiting is about relationships. So coaching staffs around the country feel it's important to have black coaches. Simple enough?

Very touchy situation. All things being equal, I would expect the better recruiter to "bag" the kid so to speak. Coach Cal & Coach Saban (among many others) seemingly have no problem pulling inner city (black) kids. So I know it is not a huge factor, but there may be some parents who are not receptive to white coaches. It's doubtful that very many kids are out here acting in that way. And if the parents are not racist, it is that much harder for the kids to act in that way.

I hope they hire this guy.

Why? In a world where people love to say we are equal, do you they love to talk about how different we are. If its equal and we supposed to be "one" nation, why force people to see the difference. Why force preferential hiring practices, why force affirmative action. Good lord people you voted in a "black" president. (though he is only half). Cant you get over the fact that the majority of this nation is white and therefor the majority of the work force including coaches are going to be white. You do not see white people demanding that there be an equal number of white and black players.

Its people like you who keep perpetuating the differences between black and white, while hiding behind the guise of "social justice". You and people like you force us to continue to see each other in black and white.

Question for you

Why it's more black in prison than white?

Question for you

Why it's more black in prison than white?

Who runs those prisons? Who runs the courts? Who runs the police departments? Who decides whether or not to hire for most available jobs?

Finally, what's the point of race baiting on this board?
Our society stinks in how it does and has historically denied opportunity to certain portions of its population. We like to assume it s all behind us but in truth it bubbles just below the surface and won't take much as proven right here in this thread for it to rear its ugly face again. OK, now let me put this to rest (I hope), color mattering not at all, Quark was right:

"Just remember: under that placid Federation veneer, Humans are still a bunch of violent savages. --Quark, Star Trek: Deep Space 9 --

incorrect. Not every black person is African American.

I guess, depending on how far we go back, we're all African Americans. Cradle of civilization... Mitochondrial Eve... Etc... We're all brothers and sisters. Well, at least distant cousins.

I prefer the term American myself. Kinda like the Lady Vols. Why are they not just Vols? Doesn't the distinction of "Lady" inherently create difference? Which means that Lady Vols are not Vols. if they were the same, wouldn't we call them both Vols?

The "Vols" in there indicates they're Vols. The "Lady" attached specifies what kind of Vols.

Does "Ford Focus" mean it's not a Ford? Or just tell more specifically what kind of Ford it is? lol

I support anyone who wishes to be known as African American, Irish American, Scottish American, Saudi American, etc. It is possible to be fully American while choosing to celebrate and remember a cultural heritage. This blending of various cultures and heritages is one of the things that made America wonderful.

It would have something to do with crime and convictions, and money for legal representation.

It could also have to do with:

Urban vs Suburban/Rural population...

In 2007–08, White students were concentrated in suburban and rural areas, with
lower percentages in cities and towns. Black,
Hispanic, and Asian/Pacific Islander students
were concentrated in cities and suburban
areas. (Indicator 7.2)

Eductaion levels...

In 2008, Black students were 14 percent of
ACT test-takers, compared with 11 percent
in 1998, and Hispanic students were 9
percent, compared with 6 percent in 1998.
Nearly one-third of Asian ACT test-takers
met the college readiness benchmark,
established by ACT, on all four exams,
compared to 3 percent of Black test-takers.
(Indicator 15.2)

Gotcha. I see your point about specificity. However, the difference in titles means there is a difference. Is a Ford Focus not different than a Ford Ranger? Yes, which is my point. If we want to move past gender or racial barriers then let's remove indicators from titles. Let the Lady Vols be Vols. Let African Americans be Americans. I don't label myself German American because American is sufficient. I want others to be able to do the same.

The Lady Vols is necessary, because people are paying money to go to games. Publicize a "Vols" BB game. People need to know what to expect, and what their $$$ is going for.

Same for Ford Focus, Ranger, etc...

Every citizen in America is able to label themselves as, simply, American. I support their right to label themselves more specifically also, and celebrate their unique heritage.

When I signed up for shift assignment, color was the last thing I looked at. I looked at the character of the other officers and supervisors I would work with on a daily basis. Did they have the same values as me. Were they productive and hard workers

In my many years, I have worked with many people of varying races. Some are what I call very good friends

I have seen those same officers treated with such hatred by their own race because of the color of uniform they wear. Uncle Tom, token, sell out and worse. I defended these officers because they are my brothers no matter the color. I have their back, they have mine

Racism will never truly go away. All races will have a section that will have it in their character. Black, White, Asian, Hispanic. Doesn't matter. Racism is cloaked in all colors

When we all realize that, we will move on

Don't know if this has been said or not yet but in the USA the ratio of white to black people is 5:1. Why does everything think there needs to be equal representation of both "races" when there is not an equal amount of population in this country.

Only case that can be made for that is if you say that many coaches were ex players and there is a much higher population of black athletes.

Many programs have just one name for each team. Are you saying that people might go to a game and not know whose playing? I learned to read a schedule a long time ago. If it says men's at the top then it's the men's schedule.

I agree that people have the right to be called whatever. I just think that the longer people feel the need to be called whatever American, then that's one more thing that prolongs inequality. I said one more thing not the only thing.
