The Win over South Carolina Looks pretty good

No, what and the other haters do is go away, go silent, go dark when anything positive like the the SCar win happens, etc. Then when the Auburn or Vanderbilt losses happen you're everywhere taking shots, criticizing any and everything you can.

I've had no problem praising the South Carolina win and I've had no problem criticizing the Vandy debacle. Any fan can do both pretty easily. And most have.

This is disingenuous. I certainly praised the South Carolina win when it happened. Most everyone did.

However, most on here will not admit the Vanderbilt loss had anything to do with poor coaching. Most on here look to throw out every excuse in the book to avoid saying anything negative about our coaching staff, especially in that game. Every minor and/or imaginary injury becomes magnified, every close call becomes a screw job, Vanderbilt becomes a team filled with talent, while we (who had like 15 4 stars starting) become a team filled with 2 stars and walk-ons. etc. It's pathetic and absurd.

I remember Jones saying something about how he wishes they could be more physical during practice through the week but could because of lack of depth and fear of injuries. I think that also effected the play calling also.

Your positive posts are so far and few between..... it's like you're allergic or something ..... interesting that you responded so passionately to a post I directed at Wylo. Guess you consider yourself a hater. Nerve struck I guess.

Any fan except Wylo. He cannot see any positives in the SC win but sees all negatives in the Vandy loss.

Yeah, you may have missed the 4 straight losing seasons, losing streak to Vanderbilt, worst blowout losses in program history, etc... Gee, I don't know where I could be getting this negativity.

But, in the rare instance when something does go right, be it a big win (we've had 1 in 4 years!) or a big name commitment, I have posted positive things about that and have been more than happy to praise the coaches. It's hardly my fault that these instances are such a rarity. I'm sorry I can't be like most of you and just change my definition of "good" with each new failure.

you seem to be the exact opposite. you wanna brag about beating sc but conveniently stay quiet about the Vandy loss.

Wrong. CBJ coached a bad game, it happens. It happened to Saban twice in a row. Unlike you I just tend to view the SC win as a much more important game then the Vandy loss.

The SC win was not as big as the Vandy loss.

Winning vs. USCe when everyone thinks you go no shot is great. But blowing the entire season and the chance to make a bowl game by losing to the in state rival is worse than the USCe win is good.

It was all lined up for this best staff. Beat the in state rival, shut Franklin up, get to a bowl game, not allow Vandy to have a "streak."

When it mattered most, they wilted. They being the all star staff. There was no evidence of great coaching.

All true. VU tried to give that game away. Our staff couldn't coach it's way out of a wet paper bag that day. The fact that we actually have a few VU trolls remaining on this board and posts like the Clay Travis bowl comparison thread are testament enough as to which game was more important.

Whatever man, your doom and gloom attitude is depressing. It's pretty sad that you think a loss to Vandy is bigger than our team beating the #11 ranked team. I guess there is no changing the mind of a true Vol hater.

Wylo is correct. How can you say he has a doom and gloom attitude when UT failed to beat Vandy with a bowl berth on the line? IT HAPPENED!

Go back and read the Vandy gameday thread and see how many "Franklin/Vandy Sucks" or "Butch beat Franklin with Cincy talent" posts you see.

The USC game was great, but at the end of the day it was a 5-7 season and no one really cares that UT beat USC outside of the posters on this site.

Wins matter. We need to get to at least 6 this year even if it takes buying out a couple of games and scheduling more cupcakes. If we go 5-7 again in 2014 there won't be a top 10 recruiting class in 2015 and Butch will be coaching for his job same as Dooley. As someone who lives in Nashville it would be nice if one of those wins is against VU.

I agree with your point about the SC win. It gave us some hope mid season but that was squandered by the VU loss. In my mind one canceled out the other. The difference is that we didn't hurt SC. The Cocks weren't going to win the east and they still went to a decent bowl game and beat a solid opponent. VU did hurt us and by keeping us out of a bowl and they do have a couple of in state linemen committed that I guarantee our coaches would like to have not to mention that at least here in middle Tn the media will harp on it until we beat them.

Truth

Vandy loss didn't cost us recruits. SC win helped seal the deal with some families and recruits. Stop dismissing it and acting like you aren't.

Most people in the pre-season looked at the Mizzou and Auburn games as winnable. They righted their ships and were much better than predicted.

So the USC win proved, at the time, to be pretty critical to the success of this team. However, UT needed to finish the job by beating Vandy and going to a bowl game. So the polish is worn off of the USC win by finishing 5-7.

In a few years no one will look back at the 2013 Vols with anything more than a "Meh".

So, someone who holds the team and staff to certain standards and demands that they meet them equals a Vol hater?

I think someone who lowers standards, makes excuses for failures, and finds success in losses is a Vol hater.

how is talking about a win against a top 10 team being very positive qualified as lowering standards, making excuses and finding success in a loss. It was a W.
And I don't recall anyone saying the L to vandy was a success.

Sparty, you've been around here long enough to have seen what I'm talking about. This place has made a living the past few years digging some sort of positive out of failures.

The thread is about the SC win Doyle, and that's not a failure. It was a great success at a great time.

The bad Vandy loss and coaching doesn't make it disappear. And its discussed plenty in the other 30 threads, imo. Its as if people cant discuss something positive without being insulted. The ones that are able to separate the two know exactly what they both mean. The ones who are pissed about Vandy thinks it discounts the SC win and they are mistaken. If that's a personal choice as to how to look at it, then whatever. Its not a good way to look at it though, imo. I have said little about the win and little about the loss. Weighing in heavily on either end of the scale is silly to me..

Big name commits are "rare"?...and we miss stuff?

Sparty,

If you cared to look, the only ones hurling insults are the self proclaimed "posivols." I haven't called you, kb, tim, or any others names recently, but I have been called plenty by some of them and their crew.

The truth drives some of you guys so crazy. They resort to name calling or wannabe witty remarks. Me, Count, Doyle, Oregonvol, Sjt, and others simply point out the truths about the losses and disappointments.

This isn't about you, it just goes towards what you said about being insulted.

Well, I'm just talking about dismissing the SC game. If people are dismissing it or can't discuss it seperately from the Vandy disappointment, they are in the wrong, imo.

That's not what I said at all. But then, you know that. You're just pretending that you don't understand the basic rules of grammar or how clauses work so you can be contradictory.

Big name commitments are a rare bright spot in what has been years of failure on the field and off. Does that clear it up for you?

Ah, willful ignorance, one of volnation's favorite debating tropes, right up there with "if X wasn't injured" and "Saban lost to La. Monroe".
