Midpack? He finished 1st or 2nd in the division in 4 of the 7 years from 2002 to the end.
On top? It took Florida 10 years to win the big one (people fired Fulmer when he didn't win another in 10 years). Florida went to the SECCG 3 times from 2000-08, same as Tennessee. Florida finished 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 1st, 3rd, 1st in the East from 2001-08. Florida had multiple 8-5 records in there, etc.
The fact is it was down from where Fulmer brought them up, but it was never down in regards to the history like you and others make it out to be.
Uh---how many times did CPF beat Meyer? And you seem to be forgetting that Fla won 2 National Championships between 2006 and 2008....CPF choked on his chance in the 2001 SEC CG...and wasn't even close again...It's a dead argument....I respect CPF & anyone who won 152 games in the SEC...but he got arrogant and his ignorance (hiring Clawson) did him in...and he needed to go....
Needed to go for what? Bringing the Vols to consistent 9+ win seasons, and then having some 8 win seasons multiple years, with a couple crap ones? He had 2 awful years (which one loss in one season wouldn't have happened if he wasn't fired when he was, in turn being bowl eligible all but one year), most likely would've fired Clawson after that one year, would've brought in Tajh Boyd (who I have no doubt would've won about 5 more games with the surrounding cast than Bray did over the past 3 years), and had more stability regarding in bringing in better classes. People act like 8-4 seasons were unheard of in UTs history, when in fact they were the norm for the majority of it. People got spoiled with what he did, then felt like they were entitled to everything.
The fact is in 2000 TN was one of the very elite programs in the nation. When Fulmer was fired in 2008 the program had fell to an average mid pack SEC team That is fact.
You can make any excuse you choose to make but the facts are Fulmer let the program take a huge downturn.
In regard to your post. I ask you one question.
Florida was a midpack program until Spurrier turned it into a powerhouse.
It was on top when he quit. Myers continued the winning tradition, now Muschamp is continuing the tradition.
Why hasn't Florida fell back to mediocrity?
They say PAT SUMMIT stepped down or was forced out. To me she was made to do it so to me that's firing.
You cannot just look at our record those last few years under Fulmer. You have to look at how we were competing against the teams that mattered. It was extremely obvious to everyone that we didn't even look like we belonged on the field sometimes. Those Florida, Bama, and Georgia losses in 08 were awful! Plus the fact that we managed to lose to one of the worst, most depleted UCLA teams in their history on national TV was an embarrassment! It had become crystal clear that Fulmer was being out worked, out coached, and out recruited by the newer, younger coaches that had come into the league.

The biggest thing I remember was that I had been a Cowboy fan for life and Landry was my coach. Then, this ignorant and arrogant ******* came in and fired him. I lasted a few more years watching the NFL and finally quit it all together around '92. Landry is now dead and still loved by many and Jones is still a fat ass ignorant arrogant *******.
Yeah, not too many ways to gracefully fire someone.
Jerry Jones bought the team fair and square for a cool $140 million. He has every right to run his team into the ground. :banghead2:
For the record, I grew up a Cowboys fan and threw in the towel at about the same time.
