Things I'm happy about today

Guy at work had a print out of discounts Johnson and Johnson employees get. There's some good stuff on there!

After 7 1/2 hours of rehearsal since Thursday night with the orchestra in preparation for tomorrow’s concert, I still have a voice. Mostly. (Guesting with the Carolina Concert Choir, which is very talented, but needed extra voices to balance out the Brevard Philharmonic Orchestra.)

After the concert tomorrow, three more concerts to go, and then done!

Seriously, if anyone has ever wanted to participate in any semi-competitive group, whether community chorus, band, orchestra, church softball, bowling league, speed-knitting group - now’s the time to get out and do it!

So many people just haven’t yet re-engaged with things like this post- (kinda) Covid that there are a ton of opportunities out there. Go do this thing!

I use to have a voice, but it’s fallen by the wayside over the years. I still tell every new employee that part of their job description is that they have to put up with my singing when I’m doing a cook shift, the only time I still sing. I’m envious of those that still do. Is that you?

Yep, this is me, in my 67-year-old ole lady glory. Captured by one of the guy church members who is also in all these choirs with me, on the demand (“request”) of the person in charge of the church email and Facebook thingies.

And for those who believe that you “can’t sing” - you absolutely can. It’s just learning to get rid of all the cheats that we create over time to prop up our voices, instead of just letting the power come up from our bellies, slightly modified (placing pitch) by our vocal cords, and then letting our facial anatomy (palate, sinuses) put our own individual signature on the sound.

Most of us strangle our natural voices in our throats, trying to control sounds we’re not comfortable with. Release all that muscular tension in your neck! Just open up and let it out. PS—I’d bet’ not find this in the Out of Context thread! 🤪

Need video of you doing a solo
