This isn’t on Heupel

Only an idiot would go for it on 4th down on your side of the field while the other team has all the momentum. Heupel has done good things but he has to know that was a bonehead decision. The play calling the second half is baffling.
The worst part of this is you could see on his face he needed to call the TO because he didn’t know what to do. I get not burning the TO, but when you wait til under 15 to call go or punt….can the time out! Get it right.

No matter the coaching . . . With this team / talent . . . This is at best an 8-4 team. JMO.

The idea that it was '100%' the fault of anyone is ridiculous. The defense came out completely unprepared and gave up a 2-play TD drive, which immediately shifted the momentum, and Josh became way too conservative with his play calls after being so aggressive in the 1st half. Joe was sharp today, and Josh essentially took the ball out of his hands for some reason. The passing game was opening up the run game in the 1st half, and CJH went away from that, which killed the offensive flow.

Going for it on 4th down when the team is reeling was a horrendous decision, and the play call was even worse. UT desperately needed to stabilize the game, and a punt and defensive stop there might have done it. I get why he went for it, but it was a bad gamble at that time, and I was screaming "punt" as soon as it was 4th down. Josh just did a bad job in the 2nd half.

The officiating was an abomination, just embarrassing. I hate blaming losses on officiating, but there were some unbelievable calls at critical points that really hurt us. I'm still trying to figure out the 'fair catch' call, and I can't recall ever seeing a defensive player called for delay of game for clapping his hands. The interference call was a joke, and a couple of the marks were just absurd. Awful game, and one we really should have won.

He didn’t call a perfect game is an understatement. Let’s blame refs like we do every year though.
Did you watch the game? There were at least 4 blatant holding situations that were not called, including one on the Bama TD at the beginning of the second half where Bama lineman was holding Vol D-lineman (which would have negated the TD with 10 yard penalty) and one on Bama DB holding Squirrel at the goal line in 4th quarter so that he could not get to the pass thrown to him that would have been a TD except for the hold (first and goal if the penalty was properly called). And Vol DB was called for holding after barely touching the receiver shirt on a pass that he would not have caught even if the shirt would not have been touched (third down play). That is just a few of the missed calls, but oh yeah, Bama did get called for a whopping 5 yards in penalties. By the way, the two missed holds above would be at least a 2 touchdown swing, leaving the game at least tied.

You said we STILL don't have the horses. Implying that we haven't had them recently. That isn't correct.

Meaning more we havent built out our roster/program to run with the big dogs. Yeah, we did last year but that was sort of catching lightning in a bottle for one year.

I didn't see the 2nd half but I have trouble believing that officiating was mostly responsible for the 27-point pasting we suffered in
the last two quarters.

Milton is 100% the problem. He cannot see receivers open fast enough. That is why he holds the ball way too long.

The most important thing our coaches can do is to continue recruiting to close the talent gap.
Milton didn't go conservative with the play calling in the second half, give up 27 unanswered nor did he go for it twice on 4th down when the ball should have been punted. To say its 100% on him is just not true.

Let me preface this by saying he didn’t call a perfect game by any stretch, but the nonstop snowball of flags or lack thereof are impossible to gameplan against.

We ran well, threw well, hell we even defended well. Nothing you can do to beat the stripes on top of it all. Some calls could’ve been different, but hindsight is 20/20 when in a fair game this is completely different.

We were screwed the second we laced them up. Team did enough to win, Bama just could play beyond the rules and refs created new rules on the fly to screw us.
Hype played a big role in this. His in game decisions sucked. Going for 4th down in your own end reeked of desperation and his refusal to go under center and do the scrum push everyone else does that is near impossible to stop is on him.
He should have punted both times.
The whole 2nd half was crap. It was a repeat of the 1st half at UF.

The first was effective, but we were outcoached badly in the 2nd half. Our overall talent level is still behind Bama and uga but we have closed the gap. We need to keep stacking classes and hype needs to learn and adapt.

Idk if we have anyone better than Joe at qb, but if we don’t play Nico some and find out, we will go into next season with a qb, with no experience at all. Joe the teammate is a great guy, by all accounts. Joe the qb is AJ Suggs bad.

The season is pretty much done at this point, nothing significant to play for. Looking at 8-4 or 7-5, the house cats had a week off to prep for Tenn. i’ll be shocked if Tennessee manages to beat Missouri and Georgia is definitely a loss.

They need to focus on finding some offensive line to protect Nico next year and keeping some of the defense intact

I promise you, the fans that are mad are way more emotional about the loss than the players. Many of them seem to not have a care in the world. It’s all fun and games on the sideline as they are getting their butts kicked on the field. If they cared they’d do something about it. This team is still infected with a losers mentality. They can’t win the tough games consistently. They crack under pressure. Yesterday was a great example of this teams loser mindset and absolutely pathetic to watch.

Yes...we are now in the research and development phase for next year.

Yeah..Heupel may need to tweak some of his playcalling. That crap may work somewhere but not in the SEC.. Billy Bob outcoached him pretty bad in the first half of that game. So bad it was over at halftime..

Multiple things can be true at once. The refs were trash, Josh made some questionable calls in the second half, the crowd affected us in a big way in the 4th quarter, Joe made a few bad throws, his receivers didn't help him out at times with bad drops.

In the past 9 trips to AL I have hoped we would pull off some miracle upset. It got to where I wasn’t even watching this game during the end of Butch and Pruitt years.

While I didn’t necessarily think we would win, I felt very confident we could without needing said miracle. When we went up by 2 scores at half time my emotions were super high. Only to see them totally wilt. THAT hurts more than just knowing we suck and getting out butt kicked.
