this team has definitely made progress.....

we are 4-7

under
Dooley 3-8
maybe 2-9

Depends on which staff.

With Wilcox... this is a 6-6 team at the worst. You are right if Sunseri is the DC.

There is virtually no doubt in my mind that Chaney would have gotten more out of the O.

I say that this season is an indicator against him surviving and succeeding. I do not believe in making predictions about future events in definitive terms when I don't have any control over those outcomes. I can read information and trends... and make predictions based on probability.

Right now, it looks as if he will finish this year with one of the worst seasons UT has had in the modern era. He has underachieved with the talent he inherited by at least one and as many as 3 wins. The team has shown no sign of improvement that is reflected in stats or wins. He has been completely uncompetitive against 4 opponents. (I have not gone back any further than 1963 but this is the first season in at least 50 years that UT has lost 4 games by 28+ pts.)

His staff allowed more points to Oregon than UT has allowed to any opponent in 100 years. He owns the all time greatest loss margin to Auburn. His loss to a very beatable Vandy team marks the first time since the 1920's that UT has lost to Vandy in consecutive years.

If AJ goes pro, UT will have 4-7 NFL draftees. The team was not devoid of talent.

I see only one sign that UT football is getting better (recruiting) and NONE that this staff has the coaching ability to compete in the SEC. I hope they can change that because they get 3 years regardlesss. But here is my opinion about the way this is likely to go:

Jones will finish this season with 7 or 8 losses. People and especially those supportive of his hire will give him a pass. The AD and others have a vested interest in excusing this failure.

Next year, he will struggle again with a very young team. I believe this mostly since if they cannot coach up a team and implement a system with players that have 3 years of college experience under their belts then they are very unlikely to do it with a bunch of JUCO's and Fr. They also play another tough schedule with few if any breaks.... SO, the fangs will come out and he will be in the same make or break situation that both Dooley and Fulmer found themselves in the off-season before they were fired.

Jones will be left with a difficult and risky choice. Either he keeps his staff and stays the course or hires a new one and hope that it works out. Neither choice has a high probability of success. I suspect he will keep his staff with his career hanging on showing he can compete with a staff.... that has done everything to show it cannot compete this year.

Well said....

FTR, those who think the '14 is going to come riding to the rescue and save '14... how many of the Fr that started or played made huge strides this year? What is the indication that this staff can coach up new players and get production from them right away? Others coaches not only do it, they make a living at it.

his saving grace may be '15. after his own 2 consecutive losing seasons, and UT having racked up 5 in a row for the first time in history (total of 6 out of 7), being over .500 and going to a bowl game will be championed by the UT admin and the wisher/worshipers and played up as a sure sign that championships are inevitable.

Please tell me you are kidding about Chaney. He is about to get another coach fired at Arkansas.

Wilcox wouldn't of helped last night like he didn't in the 2012 ky game. We'd still be a losing team. Lol at the Chaney statement, how's he doing at arky?

compared to last year and if you cannot see it open your mind and think again.

Don't get me wrong I'm not happy with a 5 win season but.....

1.) If we open with NC State instead of Oregon we get 6 wins and go bowling (assuming we beat the pack and the cats)...

2.) All 4 SEC home games were competitive through the first half and 3 of 4 were exciting until the very end with one or two stupid stupid plays loosing those games. This makes it worth going to the games again IMO as I had a lot of fun in Neyland this year

3.) Players and ex-vols are much happier with this staff which appears to be combining with the new facilities and leading to a much better recruiting class

4.) The kids are doing better in school

5.) All of this occurs despite a brand new system and shaky QB play after loosing 3 players who are having a immediate impact on their NFL rosters (Hunter, CP, Riveria) and a talented yet headcase QB

My biggest complaint is that we should have beat UF....

I would like to know what players really think cause they have to say in public they like the staff. Dallas, Posey and Fugate would tell you they don't like them. Just pondering.

Florida will win 7 or 8 next year. Once the injured players come back they'll be a lot better, but with muschamp never much more than that.

Last time I checked, the D allowed 10 pts in that game but the O couldn't score with Bray coming off a broken hand and down to one SEC caliber WR.

I mean let's be honest... holding an opponent to 217 yds of O and 10 pts should be enough to win, right?

Lol at the Chaney statement, how's he doing at arky?

Well, as opposed to Jancek, he really did inherit a no talent dumpster fire compounded by a lost recruiting year under an interim coach. He's still scoring only 3 ppg less than Jancek and is actually higher in total O.

Very doubtful. But if he does... that will prove that Ark is more determined to see coaches perform than UT since his O and Jancek's are neck in neck.

It is well said for someone who bases his probabilities only what he sees on the TV screen or visually at games.

And? By all means... I have been looking for someone who could point to these elusive but tangible "improvements" that don't involve having cold forearms to prove you're real tough.

We all saw flashes with this team and how good we could be but the truth is you switch our SC win with the vandy loss and we have the exact same record that most people expected at this point. The fact that we lost to vandy is what has everyone sour. Which losing to vandy is never acceptable our record is spot on as to what every thought we would do. If butch proves year in and year he can recruit at this level I am not worried.

The bottom line is, we have four wins. Austin Peay, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, and South Carolina. Anyone who argues that Dooley (or my little sister) couldn't have coached UT to wins against those first three are kidding themselves.
The question becomes, was USC a fluke (Shaw going out, North, etc) or a glimpse of things to come. I don't think anybody can say with any certainty. It's just that the Vandy game made a few more question it.

No, arguing for Dooley would be stupid.

I believe some crap out of conference team took us to the wire last year.

You mean like South Alabama? ALSO, please like this comment, lol, the number I'm sitting on is giving me the willies lol

Not arguing for Dooley on anything.

Every SEC team except UK scored more than 35 points on us last year.

This team is an improvement.

Just no offense, as I said before the season started.
