this team has definitely made progress.....

No, arguing for Dooley would be stupid.

I believe some crap out of conference team took us to the wire last year.

Better defense (which wasn't hard to manage).

Offense struggled with less talent at the skill positions and an OC that is out of his league IMO.

Easy to look like a bad OC when you have no talent combined with freshmen.

I'm not a fan of his scheme. And with the except of the second half of UGA and parts of the USC game his planning and objectives are a head scratcher.

He had a chance to make an impression with me Saturday and blew it.

Hmmm. Two RB's returning who combined for over 1000 in a passing O. GREAT OL athletes who needed coaching. QB that actually looks pretty good by comparison now.

You act as if no other coach or program faced these kinds of problems and found ways to look credible.

You hated Dooley... he ultimately failed. In his first year, he faced similar circumstances and worse on O. He started 2 or 3 Fr on the OL, remember? Only one of the returning OL's was any good. He had NO returning QB's. His best RB didn't have 500 career yds... and he had no back up. He had Jones and Moore at WR then Fr backing them up. In every measurable way... that O performed better than Jancek's.

What I and others have seen is regression across the board since the S. Caro game.

What you saw was regression across the board since we lost our very average starting QB and replaced him with a freshman who is not ready to be a starting SEC QB.

Prove Worley is average. I no longer buy that at all.

He started and struggled. Then Peterman, a former 4* who grew up in a system very similar to Jones', failed completely. Then Worley seemed to get some better. Then Dobbs in spite of being athletic, having a very nice arm, and being incredibly intelligent... has also struggled badly.

At what point do you stop blaming the players?

I thought Worley was progressing and we were starting to see more of the offense up until the point he got hurt. I know it is not possible but I would to have known the outcome of the season if Worley had not gotten injured.

I'm with you OP! Watching the game I saw a team that was engaged on the sidelines and jumping up and down throughout the game. Butch Jones has these kids totally bought in even if the wins don't show it YET. But when you have talented players (they're coming) that are playing with passion for a coach that knows how to win (as per his past record) then you can see good things ahead...i.e. WINS!

Freshman or not, it says something to me that they can't develop in any perceivable way a QB that they recruited for their system over a 4 game span.

I didn't expect Dobbs to turn into Manning overnight but I also didn't expect him to put up by far his worst game against his weakest opponent at home with a bowl game on the line either.

It has taken a fluke catch from North and SC playing one of their worst games of the season to avoid a goose egg in the SEC.

I agree and think we seen a roller coaster all year for the defense we seen them improve each week up until the SC game and then we seen 3 weeks of arguably the worst 3 games ever for a UT defense but I also think they bounced back nicely against Vandy but my stance is if the D only gives up 14 points to any SEC team the O has to win that game.

The coaches haven't proven anything yet, good or bad. The indisputable fact is, Tennessee does not have the players to roll in the SEC. No playmakers at all. Zip. Zero. Those incoming freshmen better be ready, Because they sure won't have any trouble getting on the field with the non existent competition they're gonna have to overcome. Literally, ZERO playmakers.

Thats the million dollar question.

When you have a roster of your own players!

This is twice you have called out Jancek as offensive coach. Mike Bajakian is the offensive coordinator. learn that and come back.....much later.

SJT18 is no dummy; am pretty sure he meant the OL, vs. Jancek's DL, or the O (unit) vs. Jancek's unit (D).

No, he isn't a dummy. But if you read his last paragraph again, it is clear he is comparing last year's O with this year's and he states Jancek as OC. I have seen this twice from his analysis and did not comment on it the first time thinking it just a typo. Second time make me doubt he knows much about the team, although he makes many posts that seem thoughtful.

I think one of the problems with a lot of fans is that fans are always looking for something to hold on to in hopes of making them feel better about the future.

The positives and negatives are about equal this year. However, the negatives made a late push to even the score. If the season had ended after the SC game, there would be buzzing going into the off-season. It didn't and we had to suffer through another horrible/lackluster November.

Let's just get through Sat with no injuries, get to signing day (which will cheer this place up), and look forward to the future.

There's no amount of turd polish that can make the last few years of UT football look better. It is what it is.
Agree with you. But looking back, it was unrealistic to put lofty expectations on the team, all things considered.

Not arguing for Dooley on anything.

Every SEC team except UK scored more than 35 points on us last year.

This team is an improvement.

Just no offense, as I said before the season started.

I thought 6 and 6.
Had us beating Vandy and Ga.
Clearly I don't know anything.
