Easy to look like a bad OC when you have no talent combined with freshmen.
What you saw was regression across the board since we lost our very average starting QB and replaced him with a freshman who is not ready to be a starting SEC QB.
Prove Worley is average. I no longer buy that at all.
He started and struggled. Then Peterman, a former 4* who grew up in a system very similar to Jones', failed completely. Then Worley seemed to get some better. Then Dobbs in spite of being athletic, having a very nice arm, and being incredibly intelligent... has also struggled badly.
At what point do you stop blaming the players?

I'm with you OP! Watching the game I saw a team that was engaged on the sidelines and jumping up and down throughout the game. Butch Jones has these kids totally bought in even if the wins don't show it YET. But when you have talented players (they're coming) that are playing with passion for a coach that knows how to win (as per his past record) then you can see good things ahead...i.e. WINS!

Thats the million dollar question.

When you have a roster of your own players!
Hmmm. Two RB's returning who combined for over 1000 in a passing O. GREAT OL athletes who needed coaching. QB that actually looks pretty good by comparison now.
You act as if no other coach or program faced these kinds of problems and found ways to look credible.
You hated Dooley... he ultimately failed. In his first year, he faced similar circumstances and worse on O. He started 2 or 3 Fr on the OL, remember? Only one of the returning OL's was any good. He had NO returning QB's. His best RB didn't have 500 career yds... and he had no back up. He had Jones and Moore at WR then Fr backing them up. In every measurable way... that O performed better than Jancek's.
SJT18 is no dummy; am pretty sure he meant the OL, vs. Jancek's DL, or the O (unit) vs. Jancek's unit (D).
Agree with you. But looking back, it was unrealistic to put lofty expectations on the team, all things considered.I think one of the problems with a lot of fans is that fans are always looking for something to hold on to in hopes of making them feel better about the future.
The positives and negatives are about equal this year. However, the negatives made a late push to even the score. If the season had ended after the SC game, there would be buzzing going into the off-season. It didn't and we had to suffer through another horrible/lackluster November.
Let's just get through Sat with no injuries, get to signing day (which will cheer this place up), and look forward to the future.
There's no amount of turd polish that can make the last few years of UT football look better. It is what it is.
