I’m not suggesting he do that, but don’t you think he deserves some benefit of the doubt? Everything that man has done has turned out to look pretty genius, many folks criticized his ticket structure he unraveled and claimed how attendance would plummet and it was a money grab, well attendance has never been higher across the board. Dude has made great moves and made money at every turn and has the athletic department in the best shape it’s been in since…(?), this deal is among the highest $$$ amount per year that any school is getting, even football stadiums that will garner more money (see Neyland soon), so maybe it was a smart move like 99% of the things he’s done since getting to Knoxville?Danny’s #1 fan. Thanks for your input. He could take a **** on the power T and you’d be the first here to defend him.

This is mostly where I'm at. It amounts to a small payout for a widely-viewed "sellout" move. $20 million across 10 years isn't going to make or break our athletic budget. If this money was funneled into Spyre, instead, I'd perhaps feel different. $20 million just doesn't go very far in terms of facility upgrades these days. It’s not just about how much revenue their football program generates. How many events does TBA hold that aren’t UT basketball games?
But again - my primary point isn’t we should be getting more. We shouldn’t be doing this unless we are flat broke or it’s “transformational” money.
Who’s to say a donor that was going to pledge $20m to athletic budget hasn’t reallocated those funds to Spyre with this move? This is mostly where I'm at. Why did UT fans make fun of Kroger Field anyways? 98% of pro stadiums have sponsorship for stadiums.
I believe “We can’t make fun of Kentucky’s stadium name now” for $20M is more than a fair deal.
Also Danny is a top tier financier and negotiator for athletic departments. I’m sure he got the best deal.
I don’t think being able to make fun of another team is a good justification for not wanting to sign a $20 million deal. I just personally think the name Food City Arena is very lame and wish we could have found something a bit more palatable. That’s all. It’s a minor issue in the grand scheme of things obviously.
