Time to upgrade

This was an ill-prepared team to play Ohio State, as was the case wit GA and ARK., and that goes on the coach. He has taken us as far as he can take up and I applaud him for that, but to get over the hump you have to do better than "very good". This is a "Tony Romo" type coach- a bunch of glossy stats in regualr games, but when you get to meaningful or crucial games to really advance to the top elite, they fail you you completely. The inability to anticipate that an opposing team would look to what GA did and not expect them to use those strategies is ill -prepared or not that smart.

Heupel's inability to recruit a high level QB is not acceptable. Tennessee offers recruits everything they need to be successful and make a career in the NFL and has given loads of money and all the support to Heupel that any coach would want.

Send him on his way with a nice payout, thank him for getting us to this level and then move to someone that can get us over the hump.

My vote is to bring in Peyton Manning, let him recruit the top GB's in the country and move to his style of real offense.

Are you serious with all that?

WRs coach needs to be fired.
Oline coach needs to be fired.

No debate there. I’m fine with giving each one this year to show improvement but they didnt. Time to find better coaches there now. Let’s see if it happens
Yep. As I said earlier, there needs to be some evaluations of the coaching staff starting this morning. Those two are a start.

Look, I’m not disrespecting heupel at all for the job he’s done in the position we were in. But we are too prestigious a program to not be looking to improve when we can. We are in a position now where we can convince a proven head coach to take the job. Heupel has been paid well and been given every resource. And we just got embarrassed so badly that we should be questioning our coach. If I’m Danny White, I start putting out some feelers now. It’s been 2 years since our offense has been worth a ****. Flame away, I just think we could convince a good HC to take this job.
THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES!!!!! Good lord. What if we get another Dooley or Pruitt! A proven coach at one place does not mean success at another

Heupel's inability to recruit a high level qb? Have you kept up with recruiting at all? Recruiting a qb is not the problem. Heupel needs to step back and look at everything from a distance and make changes as he sees fit to get to where he envisions our team being. Some feelings may get hurt along the way, some friends lost, but changes need to happen. I'm not ready to give up on Heupel just yet.
Thta is a very generic statement. What does he need to see or look at that he is not looking at? What is he going to see fro a distance that he is not seeing now? whose feeling are going to be hurt? This is a business, not a boy scout camp. What changes do you want to see- please be specific? If he needs to look at things differently, then why has he not already?

Because, after all, what red-blooded American with a quarter of a billion dollars in the bank and no coaching experience doesn't want to work medical-resident hours placating entitled recruits, players, and fans, all while risking his own hard-won legacy? When White finally approaches him, Manning's only question will be, "Where do I sign?"

Just about what I anticipated. You know more than Danny White about who we have now; but expect Danny White to know what to do to fix it 🙄
Life is so much easier from the cheap seats

Lol, I am not calling for Heupel's firing but I see serious red flags. I think Danny White will do what is necessary when it is necessary. I think making the playoffs has given Heupel a couple more years but there are serious concerns after Heupel basically torched all the positives from this season last night.

The basic math requires that there are exactly the same number of loses each year as there are wins. Every team cannot win 10+ games every year, no matter how many coaches get replaced. Thankfully with Heupel we have moved from the left side of the bell curve to the right. We have a record that the vast majority of college football fans would kill to have; but that isn’t enough for some people.
At the end of every season, there is one team that is totally happy but 133 that are disappointed.
Don’t waste your life missing the enjoyment of the really good while demanding the perfect. It is a sad state to be in IMHO.
Peace

No one is asking for the perfect. You are strawmanning.

If Peyton wanted a job in college football or even pro football, he'd already have a job in football. He's not shy about getting what he wants and never has been. He doesn't want to coach or be a GM or take some executive position, obviously.

I take that back...... I think I saw a blurb on him working with his son's football team. I'm pretty certain we can't offer enough money to match the joy and love of watching and working with his son and his son's friends.

We are upgrading Year by year. Saw it clearly in the Defensive front seven this year. Top talent and in depth. Losses at LB finally caught up with us last night.
Now we need to stack same level of talent in OL and that seems to be Heupel’s focus.
Need one or two breakaway speed WRs next year and hope we get a good replacement for Mays at Center.
And good grief find some OL tackles who can pass protect consistently.

The butthurt crowd doesn't want to hear good constructive criticism like that, they just want to blast away and see heads roll, never mind who or why.

Agree that the lines need to be the focus, but last night's game clearly showed the lack of speed overall when compared to the elite programs. We looked like we were running in quicksand all night compared to OSU, who at times appeared to have 13-14 defensive players on the field. We need LB's who can play sideline to sideline and safeties who can cover and bring the wood.

The lack of separation our WR's can create at times has been an issue since last year, and having 1-2 true speed merchants who can stretch the field opens everything up. Kitzelman showed the value of having a TE who can be a playmaker, and it seems that the best teams always have 1-2 like that. I'd also love to see a real change of pace back who is a threat in the pass game.

I hope that Josh takes a long, hard look at his scheme, and works some wrinkles in. It isn't always execution that's the problem, and I believe he has to accept that and act.

For every one program that fires a coach and replaces him with one that does better; there are probably five that stay the same or regress.

if you want to justify mediocrity, that is your thing , not mine.

Agree, but No one can dispute the we have serious holes to fill in other roster. We were emasculated at the linebacker position against night. Our Oline was a huge sieve again last night. Our safes were much slower than their receives. Our defense side ends are built for pass rushing, but we did not get to the passer and were not able to prevent sweeps to either side. Our WRs look as if they were glued to the defenders. Nico had precious little time to look for open receivers and the few times he could look, usually, no one was open. We had a good recruiting class this year, but we will still have holes to fill from the portal. In addition, how many more of our players will opt for the portal? I truly believe we will be a better team in 2025 than we were this year, but ill we be able to compete for the Playoffs next year? Only time will tell. We will have a backup QB if needed, even though there will be little experience at that position other than Nico. Where will be get wide receivers who can get open and then catch the ball when not is delivered? The off 2025 off season will be one the most important that Heupel has experienced. lets get this train back on track and get the train rolling. See you in January. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
1000% agree with this. Holes in roster, need upgrades across the board, and that starts with some coaches needing to be shown the door.

But I have 0% faith any coaching changes will take place. Unless they choose to leave on their own.

Damn.... Heupel needs to make some changes but he can win at an elite level here. He needs to upgrade some staff though. Way to soon for this kind of post and it's really kind of silly.

The disparity in talent - especially at the wide receiver position - was blatantly obvious last night. We need to recruit and develop better. We don’t have a Jeremiah Smith or Emeka Egbuka on our roster

Peyton has often told friends that he would love to coach Tenn. Do you not think from his camps he would draw the top QB's in the Country and that Tenn fans would go nuts over having him here. He could help an offense in so many way that a college off cord. could not. So be a smart as and settle for winning a bunch of games, bu getting nowhere with it. Then you can be like the Dallas Cowboys.
