Time to upgrade

Peyton has often told friends that he would love to coach Tenn. Do you not think from his camps he would draw the top QB's in the Country and that Tenn fans would go nuts over having him here. He could help an offense in so many way that a college off cord. could not. So be a smart as and settle for winning a bunch of games, bu getting nowhere with it. Then you can be like the Dallas Cowboys.
Peyton Manning lives primarily in Denver. His family is there and in school. He teaches a class in Knoxville sporadically related to media but his life is in Colorado. He can live wherever he wants and has homes elsewhere but CHOOSES to live in Denver.

Again, if he wanted to coach pretty much at any level, he needs only to express an interest. He's not going to become an SEC Head Coach and do what else is required to run an SEC program. If you think it's JUST grabbing QBs and being really smart about football, perhaps you should look further into what a Head Coach has to do.

Peyton can make a zillion phone calls to recruits, probably ALREADY talks to more HS and college QBs than I can imagine and I'm sure he talks up UT to guys if they ask.

He may have wanted to coach at UT PRE-NIL but I'll bet he wants nothing to do with continuously recruiting a team.

Mostly, however, he has a fortune, a legacy, a career emceeing various shows, making corporate speaking engagements, doing the Manningcast, appearing in commercials as much as any celebrity, and MOSTLY a family based in Denver Colorado.

This is like the Gruden stuff. There's zero indication that Peyton Manning ever considers settling in the Knoxville area with his family to coach UT.

you need better information on what some of the major contributors are saying.

I'm his bestie and he has told me many times he would love to coach but can't tolerate our fans. He declined.

Look, I’m not disrespecting heupel at all for the job he’s done in the position we were in. But we are too prestigious a program to not be looking to improve when we can. We are in a position now where we can convince a proven head coach to take the job. Heupel has been paid well and been given every resource. And we just got embarrassed so badly that we should be questioning our coach. If I’m Danny White, I start putting out some feelers now. It’s been 2 years since our offense has been worth a ****. Flame away, I just think we could convince a good HC to take this job.
Idiot LOM

“Often told friends”. Please name them. Second most clueless post in this thread. Can’t quite top the OP but it’s really close.

Just a dumb take. It's breathtaking

Thta is a very generic statement. What does he need to see or look at that he is not looking at? What is he going to see fro a distance that he is not seeing now? whose feeling are going to be hurt? This is a business, not a boy scout camp. What changes do you want to see- please be specific? If he needs to look at things differently, then why has he not already?
I'm not him. That's on him to figure out. He's the one that gets paid to figure exactly those things out. All I can do is make those "generic statements" until he decides to do whatever he decides. Doing nothing is a decision as well. Once he makes a change (or keeps things status quo) then I can express how I feel about that decision.

This is not true at all lol

He has never expressed one iota of interest in coaching. In fact when asked about it I remember he said he thought he would stink at it.

Randy Sanders had a pretty good career here, overall.
Our offense started going downhill the day Cutcliffe left and Sanders was hired. He got credit for calling the national championship game and we slowly spiraled backwards as time went on. Sanders never added anything and we became stale. He was a average OC at best. A little better at just quarterback coach. This was Fulmers biggest mistake not hiring a proven OC after Cutcliffe and the biggest reason for our slow decline back then. GBO

And then after Sanders was replaced after our disastrous offense in 2005, our 2006 & 2007 offenses under Cutcliffe were good yet again.

if you want to justify mediocrity, that is your thing , not mine.
You call a 10 win season mediocrity?
Whatever
A whole lot of teams would love your definition of mediocrity.
I get it, I want championships too.
But I am also thankful that we are in a place finally where that is a realistic goal.
Something that seemed light years away pre 2021.
Always aim higher while simultaneously keeping a sense of thankfulness what you have.

Georgia was happy enough with mark richt for years winning 10 games until they weren’t. Eventually just good enough isn’t good enough anymore
You know any other Kirby’s hanging around we can grab?
How many coaches did Bama hire and fire between Bear and Saban?
The miracle workers are few and far between. Everything else is Russian Roulette

Even though I will continue to defend Heupel; I wouldn’t complain if AD White loaded up a dump truck with Benjamin’s and asked Goelsch what it would take to bring him back. We can definitely use a few tweaks on the assistants

I remember just a few years ago hoping we could get to 6 wins just to play in a bowl game. Very good year for the Vols

yesssssssss sir. Heupel needs to upgrade the offensive line coach AND offensive coordinator. (Easy for me to say when I don't have to fire two men.)
and maybe not the o-line coach???.....
YES, I have heard that Heupel calls the plays. But the offense is dramatically worse without Golesh. Anyone watching the Vols see this. I'm not sure what's going on, but is very noticeable on game days.
