Take a deep look at our 10 wins. We were extremely fortunate this season. OU was bad, NC state was bad, Florida wasn’t rolling when we played. We beat a good Bama team and got out scored 31-7 in the second half against UGA. I understand we are in a much better position than we have been in a long time. But tonight was simply embarrassing. Ohio state may have more talent, but not that much more.
Take a look at most of the field of 12. Georgia is the only team that played a brutal scheldule. It’ll be okay hun.

Look, I’m not disrespecting heupel at all for the job he’s done in the position we were in. But we are too prestigious a program to not be looking to improve when we can. We are in a position now where we can convince a proven head coach to take the job. Heupel has been paid well and been given every resource. And we just got embarrassed so badly that we should be questioning our coach. If I’m Danny White, I start putting out some feelers now. It’s been 2 years since our offense has been worth a ****. Flame away, I just think we could convince a good HC to take this job.

I hope it’ll be alright. Hard to tell what recruits/ current players are thinking after a beat down of that nature.
It will. Vol fans were passionate and i love that. But I got my wife and daughters, that what matters, vol football is just a bonus. Theirs nobody out there that can just come in and take the program to the next step in college football active rn. So the best thing to do is just take it easy and see how it plays out this offseason for now. GBO

Heupel isn't the best coach out there. You need a Saban, Smart, Meyer, Swinney type coach to win it all and Heupel isn't that.

Heupel is still a good coach. We can win a lot of games with him.

Tennessee isn't an elite program. Tennessee is a state of 6 million and is in the 20s when it comes to recruits it produces. It is outshined by the states of Georgia and Florida on population; and Louisiana and Alabama in blue chip recruits produced. However, Tennessee plays against teams from those states. Therefore, 90% of the time, Tennessee is OUT RECRUITED by Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and sometimes even Auburn.

We also now have the mammoth state that is Texas in the SEC with 3 SEC programs attached to it (I am including Oklahoma in that number).

We just can't compete, blue-chip wise, with these other SEC powers. Georgia has Atlanta and is located in the state that produces the third most blue chips. Florida is a massive state with Miami, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, the Panhandle, etc. that they can pull from.

Tennessee can't recruit against this.
All fair points, but I will say we have recruited very well in the past, particularly the 90s and 2000s under Fulmer where we won two SEC titles, played for one or two others and won a natty. Then, we lost our culture and spiraled down to the cellar. So, we can recruit, but yes, it did get more difficult with Texas and OU coming into the league. I think I’m more concerned about the lack of execution on both offense and defense. Banks and Martinez’ boys got abused by UGA and OSU tonight. These guys just aren’t ready to play against really good teams. We will see where we go from here. Still a good season. Just disappointing to get whipped like this.

Why not try to improve coordinators and build more NIL for recruiting efforts before firing a solid coach, paying the buyout, and then hiring a new coach for an absurd price.

If he was totally failing sure. But he just made a playoff. If he can't get over the hump after a few tries or regresses, sure but changes need to be made but not wholesale changes yet

We were exposed to what we are. TN is fine with 9-3, 8-4 etc. As long as the school administrators, professors get their take that’s all we will ever be. We get 3 star lineman, secondary and get left on the turf. It’s the same every year. Only way to change is to get a top coach. Not number 10 but number 1-4. Get some speed for heavens sake. Some 5 stars as well. We don’t now!

We have went from a D/C- team to a B team in a few years. There have been times we could have beaten anyone in the country. We just did not do that consistently. That’s the next step. What it takes to get there is up for debate, but I do think some assistants and some depth is needed.

I think we overachieved to get to 10 wins and qualify for the CFP. The season was a success despite this game being a failure. The roster is not good enough to win a NC. That’s what Heupel has to work on. His staff needs evaluating also.
