'20 TN ATH Reggie Grimes (Oklahoma commit)

Getting less traumatic every game played. I donโ€™t think Knox or Anderson see the field this past season.

Trey Knox? He played a little, and pretty good.

Not talking about what they did with OTHER TEAMS. If we signed Knox or Anderson, my unprovable opinion is that they would have redshirted.

Someone who ranks players in this state did this young man a disservice

Maybe but lots of players are ranked high because of their potential or freakish athleticism. I know his lack of production/stats have been discussed but someone (Oklahoma) saw something they could work with. Sooners are not going to extend a scholarship to a player just for the heck of it.

Strange they havenโ€™t signed this unique talent.

I think his athleticism provides the potential but his production leaves no doubt, whoever grabs him is taking a risk.
If we were as established as Oklahoma, I could see taking the risk. But any team in the position we are in just can't spend the spot on "maybe he'll make a real effort".
We know beyond a shadow of a doubt what kind of effort he gave in HS....that is the only fact anybody has to go on..

Probably. I was a critical of Knox as anyone having watched a lot of Blackman games. I do wish Pruitt would have taken a flyer on him and developed him.

I think he is a really good athlete, but he seems stiff as a pass rusher.

First rep not bad, just tries to move Mayes backward and does.
Second rep, when he makes that cutback move if he would put his left hand violently into Dumervil's chest he could have him right where he wants him.

Somebody out there teaches him how to be violent with his hands he could do some good. Pretty evident the other night OU needs pass rushers.

This sums up Grimes and how he plays in games in a nutshell. 9 out of 10 times he plays like the first rep where it is the straight bull rush. He is effective with this sometimes and pushes his guy back which can disrupt a pass play. The rest of the time he just gets swallowed up by a smaller less athletic lineman.

The other 1 out of 10 he attempts to use his athleticism. When he does this he will flash what he has but he is stiff, he has no other move outside of the simple cutback move and has zero clue in how to use his hands. This most of the time will create an ineffective pass rush for him and he will dart into the inside where he will get swallowed up by a tackle or the play will go around him.

This is why I say he is a frustrating player to watch. It is there and you want to see it happen but it just doesn't. If he gets a couple of years of good development he may turn into a decent player.
