Just because you don’t have to see them that often doesn’t make it any less painful when you have to see the in-laws you can’t stand. And the risk is much higher the more they talk to and take a role in the kids biz. I would guess the apple hasn’t fallen that far from the tree. I’d steer clear of the whole family but that’s just me.
“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” is a tired cliche that just isn’t true. I know plenty of good men whose fathers were not. You don’t judge a kid by his parents. If that were the case, our stories would all be written before we’re born.

None of us know this kid. It’s up to the coaches to get to know him and figure that out…the same way they figure it out with every kid…not by judging his parents.

Have you made 16 posts in his thread mostly about his dad? It’s one thing to mention it once or twice, but to keep at it is like beating a dead horse. We get it. It’s not just Jackrevol, there are others doing it as well. I’m also not saying it is without merit. However, I pray my son is never judged by my mistakes.

It was his son that got into the fight, got suspended, the dad didn't hold him accountable and moved him to a school so he could play earlier.

Admirable take. That said, he’s still a kid, far from a man. I’d prioritize less dramatic options.

I’m not worried about his character, because I trust Heupel to discern wether or not this kid fits the quality culture he has built in the locker room here.

My concerns are mostly about the fact that I’m just not sure what this kid brings to the table that you couldn’t get from an average CB pickup in the portal. I’m sure I’ll get ripped by some for saying that but the portal has just completely changed my view on high school projects. He’s not going to be an immediate contributor. He probably doesn’t even play meaningful minutes till he is an upperclassmen just due to our philosophy here. So, why not just target an extra CB in the portal?

Feels like staff is reaching on this one but I’ll trust that this one works out in the end.

If you're taking a kid from the portal, he probably is looking for immediate playing time.
We have Gibson, Matthews, Thomas.
They probably think they have time to develop him.

Those guys are young and inexperienced. Maybe they go portal so they can bring these kids along more slowly?

I live in the Tri Cities area. His dad is nothing but drama and toxicity. I’m hoping he’s nothing like him, but if he is, we better cut the cord now.

Couldn’t agree more with this. If they aren’t a bonafide big time recruit, I’d rather have someone from the portal (assuming we actually take advantage of it and are prepared to bring in the best of the best and not the best of the rest like last year).

This one feels like another Christian Harrison type of take…except with more baggage

Bottomline if the kid has talent at the position you bring him in. You don’t judge the kid based on his father’s actions or mistakes. Now if he’s a problem when he gets on campus then you cut him. Most of you would be fine with taking the kid if he were a five star kid.
