'24 TN OT Jesse Perry (Tennessee)

You're talking about Ginther in the Jesse Perry thread.

Because the post I replied to was talking about Ginther in the Jesse Perry thread.

So far, all of the QBs. Some bounced but Hooker and Milton were both rejects thought to be busts.

Nico and now the kid from GA will represent a change from that.

OL is absolutely a position where you are as likely or more so to see the great ones "built" rather than found. In all the argument about "stars" some things have been ignored. Both of these recent commits appear to be really, really smart. Both look very nimble on their highlights. Both show some nastiness. Both have good height and length but need bulk. All of that seems to suggest a very specific profile that they're recruiting to without any regard to stars or who else likes a kid. I don't know if it will work or not... but IIRC Heupel's OLs that dominated at Mizzou were made up of a bunch of nobodies who were well developed.

Did you see the video with the kid from Colorado? He said one of the reasons he committed is that Heupel and Ellerbe was straight with him. He asked Ellerbe where he was on UT's "board"... coach didn't try to snow him. He was 5th. That's both good and bad. One, you have to wonder where they stand with the 4 above him and who they were. Did UT miss out on better prospects? But two, it means that regardless of ratings and all of that he is considered VERY talented. I imagine everyone in the top 10 on UT's board at each position is considered a very good prospect.

I thought I'd read that the staff had pushed him up to second on the board once they saw him...?

ETA:

So, either he's lying, the staff lied to him, or they don't give a **** about ranking services and think he's the second best known prospect they can go after.
You could be right. I was just going off one video I saw on youtube. Regardless, I am not worried about a staff that has its own ideas and evaluations. There are only a handful if that of true "5*" OLs in any class. They have elite physical traits and have competed in a high level of HSFB. After that, it is potential and development whether 4* or 3* or zero*

Offensive tackle commit Jesse Perry was back in Knoxville and had a great weekend. His role has changed from recruit to recruiter as he tries to peer-recruit other offensive linemen to join him at Tennessee.

“I really enjoyed the talent show and hanging out with the other offensive lineman there," Perry said.

I'm really excited about this kid.

Just comes from a no name program (for the time being) that's why he's ranked so low.

Nice get by Heup
No. He’s ranked so low because MTCA plays other small Christian academies so it’s hard to tell if he’s actually any good relative to higher ranked prospects

Should take some time to get the body right and learn pass blocking techniques, but he could be a guy down the line. Need a nice blend of Ready-Made Tackles & Developmental Tackles. Important to get a combination of Baker/Calhoun/Warren, Easley/Anderson, Ginther, and Perry

That’s what camps and our staff is for. Evidently they liked what they saw and that is good enough for me. The hardest spot to evaluate and project is OL, and I take staff over recruiting services everyday and twice on Sunday.GBO!

Oh i don’t doubt that he can be a player if the staff likes what they see. I just like to piss in @LittleVol ’s Cheerios because he likes to state his opinion as fact

Got pushed around tonight by auburn commit martavious Collins. He held his own for a little bit. Looked tired after 1st half. Looks the size though.

Reminds me a lot of that Stewart kid several years ago from coalfield. Never came to play because of his mother passing. Looked the part but wasn’t impressed in person.

Kind of like when I saw SP play 2 years ago. Wasn’t impressed with the 3 star DE that went nowhere

we dont have time for projects anymore. we have to hit on ready to go dudes.
I can tell you right now after helping coach at MTCS (my high school alma mater as well), Jesse is a bit of a project. Honestly don’t see him making the 2-deep until maybe senior year. He is a bit slow and his footwork needs a lot of work. He also is just a super nice kid and he doesn’t really have that crazy tenacity that really good lineman have when on the field or in camp
