Thing is… when Butch was here we all boomed these types of commitments.

Then when Butch left, we all were glad we were done taking 260lb tackle projects.

And now we’re back to acting excited about taking a 260lb tackle.

If you’re just gonna be a cheerleader, so be it.

Considering the offensive line prospects were in on - Calhoun, Easley, Westphal, Calloway, etc - it makes little sense to take this commitment now.
I completely agree. Seems like they could’ve told this guy to hold off for a while. You don’t take this commitment this early when you’re in it for those guys plus Baker and McRoy

Look this kid is 6-7 and 275, by the time we need him he will be over 300, i trust the coaching staff, if you put a 4 star beside his name this board would be booming, i will give this kid a big boom, welcome to VOL LAND young man.
i trust this staff cause they've batted 1000% in their evals thus far

He's likely to be at least 295 by the time he hits campus. He's in the second semester of his junior year of high school and potentially still growing. The athleticism is there. The work ethic is there. The desire to be great is there. The kid is raw due to what type of offense they run and apparently isn't on the camping circuit. If he was 240-250 I'd understand some of these complaints. At 6'7" 275, this kid isn't carrying any bad weight. If Elarbee likes him and Heupel signed off, then I'm good. They have much more at stake than any of us.

Idk if the sites just updated their pages since he committed but I could’ve sworn his page said he was 260 which combined with his meh offers lent to a lot of my consternation today. Being 275 going into his senior year makes a huge difference. Plus the whiskey. Plus I like the idea of him maybe being a center.

I just want elite tackles. Im so tired of project QBs and tackles and corners. Three of the most important positions in football and we’ve taken so many projects and hoped theyd pan out.

I think we now have players other than projects at every position We need to recruit high levers at least three levels to win a Championship. That will difficult, especially at the QB position.

I’d be interested in seeing that. I’ll submit that OL is the hardest position to predict.

But without seeing what you’re referring to, I’d counter that it’s a numbers game. In that they’re 133 FBS schools. Each of those FBS schools has what - an average of 10 or so OLineman?

Meanwhile, there are only about 32 five stars and ~300 four stars each year.

So by a sheer numbers perspective, I’d expect there to be significantly more former three star NFL lineman than former blue chip.

But if we want an elite offensive line, we’re going to need elite lineman. Our best lineman recently have been Trey Smith, Cade Mays, and Darnell Washington. That isn’t a coincidence.

Georgia and Alabama have elite lines and always have guys drafted. That’s who we’re going yo be competing with.
Not sure how close you follow recruiting but we didn’t get Darnell Washington, he went to Georgia. I’m sorry you’re finding out this way.

Offensive Line is the hardest position to project coming out of High School. That’s why you have to recruit an average of 4 per year. You see guys every year dominating smaller guys with sheer size, but lousy technique. These players don’t have the work ethic or motor to move up in class.

Good programs will take guys that are still growing, but will take to coaching and get better each year. Look at Ellerbee’s track record: Cade Mays, Wright, and likely carvin will be drafted in the first 2 years. Cooper Mays and probably Scraggins gets drafted after this year. Nearly every lineman is getting Redshirted, and only a few are playing much in year 2. Contrast this with Jones, where Robertson was inserted as a starting OG a matter of days after moving to the position. We aren’t taking 260 LB players and wrecking their joints by trying to get them to carry more than their frame will allow. I trust these coaches to know what they want.

If this kid played at Blackmon, Riverdale, etc. he would be a borderline 4* due to size, competition, and system. Then HoleInTheRoof, er, I mean @EdEcEko77 would be happier.

Imma boom just to spite Hole. (TWHS)

Well how do you know if he is or isn't an elite tackel??
