'26 TN QB Jared Curtis

I’ve heard similar but if ends up choosing Baylor that’s tough on Briggs who I think is a very good QB and just transferred in to sit for a year and then play
Briggs Cherry is a very good QB prospect. That would absolutely suck for him. I have heard rumors if Jared came he may end up at Bradley.

From what I’ve seen, I like Curtis more than Mac. He looks like an absolute stud to me. But I don’t know half of what Heupel and Halzle know about evaluating QBs, so if they want Mac in 25 and Brandon in 26, then so do I.
In spite of the D4H Effect, I've favored Curtis in that class for this past season, but what we may be witnessing is an offshoot of the Ty Simpson recruitment. Heupel arrived and went all in but couldn't overcome the relationships that had been developed with both our former staff and Bama's. Early on he gauged Arch Manning would be a lengthy pursuit and imo likely non-reciprocal...so he focused on Nico and that paid off with both Bama and UGA at best dividing their attention for Manning Spawn. Maybe they already have their most promising relationship with a (for now) lesser hyped prospect who can make all the throws but be amenable to developing for a season or two instead of demanding his own brand launch. All "maybe" personal speculation.

Still don't believe GM will sit til RS Soph season to play...

Man, seeing Haynes King in that bowl game. Just shows me the misses on former staff evals, and kicks the BVS in.

Really hope and think Huepel is better on eval.

Same Haynes King that looked outside his depth in College Station? Key is “former staff” in which evaluations were amongst the lower end of malfeasance…tho Chaney coveted King in that class. Penix was a far worse call by Pruitt and Helton. Trade-off there was JT Shrout.

If Nico is the star we think he is, he’ll go pro after 2025. Then Mac will have the opportunity to start his RSFr. year. Can’t imagine a more ideal situation for a QB to walk into.

At Alabama, he’d have to wait another year behind Sayin. And Sayin is the real deal.

What's Merklinger chopped liver, he will be a year ahead of GM...

No, he’s not chopped liver. I personally think Merk ends up being Nico’s successor. But if you’re GMac, you’re looking at it as 2026 being your first chance to really compete for the job with no incumbent. And he’ll enter that competition with a year of college under his belt.

I’ll kindly disagree with you sir. I believe Merklinger will be a stud for us. Kind of hard arguing over two kids that’s not taken a snap for us yet though.

Oh no! The VN gurus gonna freak out when they hear this. Gonna be some whaling and gnashing of teeth ‘cuz Heupel doesn’t recognize the need to recruit the elite 5* in-state guy over the lowly 4* guy in NC. Personally, I find it interesting the staff apparently thinks Brandon has a higher upside. Let the debate begin!

Folks said the same sarcastic thing about Deuce Knight until he went to Lipscomb, flopped, then left in the middle of the "night" back to Mississippi.

I just find it humorous that some VN fans get all bent out of shape if the coaching staff places a higher value on some player other than the one they’ve selected as the “must get”. Maybe the coaches believe Brandon has more long term potential than Curtis, and that’s why they have him ahead of Curtis.
