‘23 TN WR Nathan Spillman (Tennessee)

I finally found Spillman's current stats: 9 catches for 84 yards and a TD in 7 games. If I'm reading this correctly, he's been targeted 29 times: Nate Spillman Football 2022 | Lipscomb Academy Mustangs | Digital Scout

Last year, Spillman had 22 catches (targeted 38 times) for 348 yards & 5 TDs in 13 games. No idea what's happened this year but he was expecting to have more of an impact:
Spillman admits his numbers may not have been the best last season but expects to see them rise significantly playing alongside Vanderbilt commitment Junior Sherrill and a new quarterback in Liberty commitment Hank Brown. "I feel like I've really grown a lot since last season," Spillman said. "I'm a better route runner and I've also just gotten stronger, faster and smarter as a football player. I also get to play alongside one of my best friends in Junior so if you try to stop one of us, you're not stopping the other guy."
How Tennessee football commit Nate Spillman is recruiting for Vols

FWIW, Brown is airing it out plenty (119 of 175 for 1,679 yards and 24 TDs) and Sherrill has 43 catches for 776 yards and 14 TDs.

Exactly, and the exact said thing was said about him too

Herring did have some decent stats in HS at least. Heck, he had more catches than Spillman does (yes I know the season isn’t over).

Caught 11 passes for 146 yards and one TD as a senior, in addition to 67 tackles, 16 TFL, five sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

But many didn’t think so at the time.

I think a lot of y’all are downplaying how highly regarded Herring was at the time. No, he wasn’t as highly rated as his brother, but he was considered a good recruit and a take with or without his brother. Much more highly regarded than Spillman.

Spillman is an athlete. I think he might end up transitioning to DB. He is definitely raw in terms of football skill.

I don’t disagree. My comment was more about Herring being a good recruit than Spillman not having potential.
Yeah. I wasn’t posting as a response to you particularly. Just as a general statement. Herring was a good recruit. He’s played as a freshman. That should tell you how depleted our LB core is.
