Still don't see how USC will continue to struggle for years on end. The offense has definitely improved and you know Monte will have a defense sooner or later. Not sure if Scroggins is a guy they can count on when Barkley leaves, though.
You mean like they did for most of the 80s and 90s? Scholarship reductions on the way and a team that has already lost 9 games the last two years with a crap defense. I can see how it will continue.
You could even throw in the 70's Steelers as a Tampa 2 team because that's essentially what they ran.
In college, the scheme as a base defense isn't widely ran. But it is in most defensive schemes in some form.
Re: Tampa 2, it is still used, by winning and losing teams alike.
Hate Monte all you want, the guy is an innovator and has his place in football history. If you don't like it, tough. Deal with it.
USC is a far cry from being loaded this year; they have some good pieces, but they are nowhere near the same ballpark as CPC's early teams. They'll be back by the middle of this next decade if their new AD brings in a solid staff after Kiffin; but CLK's staff can flat recruit. They obviously won't be getting deep classes, but they'll leave enough pieces in place for whoever takes over afterwards to win almost immediately.
Scholarship reductions will hurt, but they can probably survive that next year. 2012 and 2013 could be tough. They'll return to prominence shortly after that, with or without Kiffin.
