Tom Smith commits to the Vols

Don't know if it's already been posted but here's a vid.

Now I'm no expert on running, but to me his technique looks a little off. Still, I didn't see anyone catch him from behind, and this is some of the top competition not only in Florida, but of the country. Let Mr. Wylie get a hold of him and I think he'll be a solid contributor. Good pickup CDD and the rest of the staff!

what would make me the happiest is the immediate termination of mike hamilton. he has put tennessee football back a decade.

So Hamilton is to blame for every "big time" coach that refused the money that he threw on the table? Most wanted ridiculous clauses in their contracts, you know the same one that Kiffin had so he could leave if USC offered.

Hamilton couldnt help that nobody wanted to come into the mess that Dooley inherited. I applauded Dooley for even trying to right the ship, but all most of you can do is complain. Most coaches want instant success, so they can move on to greener pastures. They dont want to come into a situation where they have to basically rebuild a program.

Muschamp wasnt coming. He has it made in Texas. Easy to recruit to Texas. Not so much at UT.

Gruden- Pipe dream
Davis-Pipe Dream
Kelly- Dream job ND

So we got what we got. So we might as well all be men about it and deal with it. Dooley will do fine, if he is just given a chance.

i agree with that 100%, but at the sametime he is not generating alot of excitement in the program. if he was getting big recruits and making a name for himself it is one thing, but right now he is just vince dooley's son. i'm hoping i'm just not a patient person and all this works out, but i'm not confident at all.

You seem to misunderstand causality.

You want Dooley to:

1. Generate excitement about the program.
2. Pull in big recruits.

At this point, the only way to generate excitement about the program is to pull in big-name recruits, yet the only way to pull in big-name recruits RIGHT NOW (in this off-season) is to generate excitement about the program. There's really no way to generate excitement until the season starts and we can see the product on the field.

You really just need to wait until the season before you start bashing the guy.

It's better to be positive and hopeful or, at least, agnostic about Dooley's success than to be negative, hopeless, and despairing. Your thoughts and feelings have no control over the situation. And, since that is so, you lose nothing by being positive. Being negative only produces hopelessness and despair.

Is there a reason why you are such a huge Dooley homer?

Just out of curiosity who would you want to be the coach? By the way these coaches turned us down: Gruden, Utah's coach, Air force's coach, Cutcliffe, Texas D-Coor, that we know of. Kiffin left so he is not applicable... Wait Urban Meyer did step down for like a day we should have gotten him when we had the chance dang!

Just got a text from TOS that safety Brian Randolph just committed. Let's see what kinda thread starts on that...

Dooley won't get the big recuits untill he shows them what Tennessee will look like on the field. Once he does that and shows the future potential of the program the big recruits will come. So slow down, take a deep breath, and be patient.

Actually the O&W attendance was more under Kiffin last year, over 50,000. That was 2nd to like 73,000 after we smoked Miami in the sugar bowl in the 80's. This year was around 35,000. I see where you are coming from though. The attendance will be fine this year under Dooley. Ticket sales are down from last year but the economy plays a part in that.

they made a huge deal about it on VQ that Dooley's was bigger than kiffin's and all his excitement.

I know one thing is for sure, Dooley enjoyed being at fan day and meeting the fans, more than Boy Blunder did. Everything, including the Vol Walk, seemed only an inconvenience to Boy Blunder.

EDIT: you could be right though now that i think about it.
No.

On a side note, solid pickup. If we can hang on to him, he’ll be very solid for us IMO. Not a BOOM moment by any means, but it’s better than Andrew Power.

Because how much Fan Day means to a coach has an effect on wins and losses, right.

Any recruiting class(past 2) we got 2 stars an 3 stars.. Dooley is a helluva recruiter

Actually in Kiffin’s first class, this guy would be our lowest rated commit (though I expect him to end up a low 4 star). And that class didn’t have any 2 stars either.

Well, without the fans, he wouldnt have a job: See Fulmer 08.

If you come off as an asshat to the fanbase, then you will loose support faster than if you sucked as a coach.

College is big business and fans buying merchandise, tickets, hotel rooms, food, etc. not only drives the UT machine, but also helps the local economy of Knoxville.

Eric Berry. Chris Walker. Ben Martin. Jacques McClendon. Demonte Bolden. Wes Brown. Montario Hardesty. Rico McCoy. Chris Scott.

Sure, we've had our string of busts. We've also had a few good recruits work out pretty well too. It's just the game called recruiting.

Martin and Walker will be worth of the label "bust" if they don't stay healthy and perform consistantly their senior years. Demonte was a friggin bust.

Just out of Curiosity why is it that Kiffin gets credit for the past two recruiting classes and Fulmer and Dooley get none? Most of Kiffin's recruits the first year were people Fulmer recruited (Oku for example) yet Kiffin gets credit. Now Kiffin does deserve credit for most of this years class, but Dooley did bring in some recruits that were not even considering us.

How many of those big name recruits in Kiffin's class are still here? Exactly....

Man, the moaning and groaning on here is way beyond a whipping. It is absurd. Is Eeyore going to replace Smokey as the mascot of the Vols?

I appreciate the positive thinkers on this board, because that is where I am. I truly believe the program is finding its footing again, but that is where a foundation can be laid. It isn't going to happen overnight if you do it right, but I believe we have something to build on right now. The program has to be rebuilt piece by piece.

I believe there is a parable that a wise university builds its program on a rock, while a foolish one builds it on a Kiffin. I continue to support the team and the coach.
