Tony Basillio confirmed - Kevin Ware won't be released

I disagree. The coach will come to him; all he has to do is sit and listen, and then contact UT and ask for his release. I find absolutely no harm in that.
Sit and wait on UT while teams he would be interested in fill their spots with other guys. UT isn't even doing a decent job of hiding what they're doing. They're delaying in the hopes Ware and Jones run out of other viable options.

if he might want to stay at UT how come he wont meet with the new coach? does that really pass your bs test?

Ware and Jones are meeting with Martin this weekend. I guess there was nothing to Ware's tweet of "VFL" a day or two ago. Please go read about the entire situation before you make ignorant statements. I wasn't even negatively addressing your opinion on the matter.

If UT is unreasonably delaying the process, then obviously, I don't think that's fair.

They are probably already very limited on other viable options. They were aware of the violations facing UT and were aware that Pearl may not survive as coach, despite the support being shown by UT administration. Pearl, himself, indicated that he may not survive this situation. Asking them to wait a week to meet the new coach is in no way unreasonable.

"You signed a contract. We'll let you out of it if you really want out, but in return we'd like you to meet with our new coach first." If that's Tennessee's approach, then I think it's perfectly reasonable.

If I'm Martin, I show up to the meeting with the release papers already signed as a good faith gesture.

I agree provided the meeting takes place no later than this weekend. Any further delay would be unnecessary and a douche move.

UT hired a new coach 2 days ago. I disagree with your conspiracy theory on this one.

Martin was hired Monday. Not meeting with them until after the Final Four is asinine. Part of me hopes Ware and Jones listen to the pitch, then both say "Sorry I interrupted your search for a staff. I'll take my release now."

You can't be serious. Other interested teams fill their spots? Go look at any recruiting service's site and tell me how many 2011 players, guards in particular, remain unsigned at this point. You don't think a lot of teams would welcome him with open arms in a couple weeks or less? Really? He's top 60 player in the nation. If UT, Hamilton, or Martin (even after speaking to both players) didn't think we had a shot in the dark to keep them we wouldn't let them go? That's stupidity and bad PR. I highly doubt UT would do that.

Out of curiosity, why would you hope that?

It's asinine because he was just hired and isn't busy at all with contracts, administration issues, hiring coaches, etc., etc. Be reasonable please. Just wait until the damn weekend to make your pessimistic judgments.

I don't think it's to unreasonable to meet with Martin before leaving. At least give Martin a chance.

It's an open period right now. I've talked to two coaches who are on the road. They're both taking commitments today. At least one of them would have been interested in talking to Chris Jones, but didn't want to wait.

Kevin Ware is one of the 60 best players in America in fanatasy land.

Honestly, there will be other options. The university they contact would be stupid not to engage in conversations about taking one of them (Ware or Jones). Both are top prospects. If they don't want to wait, then that is their problem. They should be on the phones right now talking to each recruit pitching their team if they think they have a shot with either one. Who said they have to wait on an LOI release if it's nothing but a formality?

if there aren't many players unsigned don't you think that also means there aren't many schools with scholorships left to offer?

These 17-18 year old kids need to start picking the school instead of the coach when making their college choice.

Jerry Green, who is slightly smarter than a hamster, left his introductory press conference and immediately wen to see Tony Harris. If Martin's more concerned about finding a director of basketball operations than his is holding on to Ware and Jones, I'd say that should make their decisions easy.

Because players are bigger than the team and the university? CCM wants things done right. I think even the players understand that much.

And I apologize, Ware is #56 on Rivals, 97 on Scout, and 91 on ESPN. *Top 100 player*

Since it's an NCAA violation to have contact with a player under a LOI at another institution, I'd say most compliance offices would be the ones saying they have to wait.

You wouldn't open a spot on your roster for players as good as Ware or Jones? Actually pretty easy to pull off.

He is nowhere near a top 100 player.

To somewhat defend Martin, he has supposedly been in contact with both of them. However, I do think he should go ahead and meet with them.

Is asking them to wait a week to talk with the new coach unreasonable delay. I don't think so. Giving them an immediate release based on an emotional response to Pearl being fired would be irresponsible by UT. Ware has already indicated that he wanted and release, then didn't want a release, and now wants a release again. Obviously, they need to make an intelligent decision after talking with the new coach. Acting as if UT is destroying their career by this action is ridiculous.
