Tony Basillio confirmed - Kevin Ware won't be released

For the incoming players, I agree. But for those already on the roster I think it opens up a pandora's box

Which is why it has to be universal. It just wouldn't make sense to allow kids to just transfer at will. Besides., Ware signed early as well. If your not sure, or want to make sure you don't screw yourself, don't sign a piece of paper that may screw you in the near future.

Of course, there's a simple counter to this, one I actually took part in once. All the AAU and High school coaches in Atlanta should send word to Cuonzo Martin that he and his assistants are not welcome in their gyms and on their campuses and if they show up they'll be arrested for trespassing. UT doesn't have exclusivity on playing hardball.

A pandora's box for the schools. So what? They have less control over their free labor? Boo F'n Hoo.

That's why I think it's incumbent upon everyone to resolve this the right way. I understand if they want to give Martin a chance to make his case. But it's a decision about where to go to college, not to join the mafia.

I'm fine with the hire. I just don't understand why Ware should be forced to play for Martin.

So, it's not about teaching the kids to honor something you sign, it's about sympathizing with them and feeling sorry for them that they may have made a hasty decision without trying to prepare for life if the current coach isn't there, right?? Would you have released Bryce Brown?? I know I wouldn't have.

And it's not like anyone twisted his arm to sign early with UT. If he didn't understand that crap happens in this business, then I truly feel bad for him.

A contract is a contract but in this case they were lied to to get the LOI signed. Who do you think Hamilton was talking to when he made those supporting statements to the press? Of course these guys were asking, "who will be the coach" before they signed.

Why should he have to listen to Cuonzo Martin? Ware probably doesn't know him from Steve Martin.

Absolutely.

And remind me again how it's affected us with recruits and in the media with Bryce again?? It hasn't, and it won't with Ware. It will just be some pissed off kid, who made a decision to come play ball for a coach, and not a university. Oh freaking well.

Which in many cases, is a decision that could have quite a large impact on a players future.

I agree with this. I'd probably tell him that I'd release him if he agrees to sit down with Martin first. That will at least give Martin a chance to keep the kid. If he still wants out, he should be released.

San Diego could relate this much more eloquently, but part of the reason he offered his signature to the piece of paper called a LOI was because it was understood the contract he was signing included playing for the coach currently leading the team. That coach lied and lost his job effectively making that contract invalid. May be oversimplification, but my interpretation, in short.

I think I probably phrased that poorly. What I meant was that Tennessee shouldn't act as if he signed his life away when choosing a college.

I think incoming players who haven't even enrolled in classes should get more leeway.

What makes you think I'm talking about recruits and the media? I'm not basing my stance on the issue on what the media thinks.

Bruce Pearl wasn't guaranteeing his financial aid.
