Tony Basillio confirmed - Kevin Ware won't be released

If he's that good, he can suck it up and play like he's capable of. That's what will earn him money, not transferring.

Yeah, because a player should just "suck it up" and play for a coach that gives him less of a chance to succeed, because Bruce Pearl and Mike Hamilton are both giant bags of douche and lied to him about Pearl being the coach long term.

So, screw the roster, and save the child??

Of course. He's just a kid. Imagine how he feels about all of this. Or are you that jaded?

We can recruit other players during this transition. The AD and coach have lied, repeatedly. What kind of example are we upholding by handcuffing a kid to a faulty contract?

I was making a general statement. However, if you want to look at Ware, why would he ask out of his LOI if he didn't feel somewhere else would be better for him?

He asked out of his LOI because he wanted to play for Bruce Pearl. Yes, I think it is that simple. There is no way he can tell that Pearl is a better coach than Martin when he hasn't even spoken to him, or that somewhere else is better for him without speaking to Coach Martin. There is a possibility that he assumed that Pearl was the guy that could coach him up (under what circumstances that could be true, I don't know, because Bruce Pearl does not have a track record of building NBA talent).

Like you said, he may feel somewhere might be better for him. That is nothing but an assumption. My stance in this entire debacle is that he should give Coach Martin a chance to explain what he wants to do and where he wants to take the program.

I would rather suck less with a slightly pissed off Ware, than to truly be terrible with Ware playing somewhere else. That's just me though. He will get over it eventually.

If they wanted to leave, absolutely. Last time I checked, the 13th Amendment pretty well covered the issue.

The race card is getting old. The 13th Amendment really ?
No one is forcing them to do anything. They signed a contract to play ball for a school, in exchange for a free education and promotion to the professional level. They can break the contract at any time, and accept the penalty for doing that. This is known up front. No need to act like they are getting owned. They are usually given all kinds of breaks in life, because they can bounce a ball. I will say I agree with LV on this one. He signed, he can wait for us to make a pitch before we choose to release.

Because Kevin Ware would most definitely suit up for UT if MH and CM don't let him out of his LOI...

Of course, it's all about the glory of good ole UT. God forbid it be about the kids who actually play the games. It's all about what makes the folks in the stands happy.

I'm not sure you understood the context of his statement. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with race. However, I don't see anything wrong with telling the kid, "We'll release you if you'll agree to let the new coach come and talk to you first."

He's making a few million dollars.

You've proven yourself to be unbelievably clueless. This gem just solidifies it.

My point is, Griffin chooses to play ball and be a great teammate, even though he is on a team full of crappy players. Griffin will be traded to a contender someday, and it won't be because he demanded a trade, it will be because he did the right thing.

It reminds me of some comments I hear about the NFL lockout that I find to be hilarious. "The greedy players and owners are screwing over the fans."

First if I was jones or ware I would have never signed in Nov with all the AA issues and unknown of Pearl's status as coach, regardless what BP & MH were telling them. I was shocked they signed. Where were there parents or coaches?Second Bryce Brown situation is completly different he played a year. You do not get out if you played games to bad. Since these kids did sign for a coach, which I would say 90% + do, I would let them go. If CCM wants to rerecruit them he can. JMO..

Different circumstances there...

How, if a coaching change happens, and Griffin is under contract, he can't exactly say, "Well eff it, I'm gone", he has to play because he signed up to do so. Same thing with Ware, he signed up to play for UT. Why are we acting like Ware would be the victim here??

Steve Smith is waiting with a roster spot as we speak. He's probably already deciding whether to give him Stackhouse's or Carmelo's old locker to stick it to UT. Hell, he might twist the knife hard and give him Ron Mercer's.

Ware will be making Griffin money in this alternate universe?
