Tracking Saban's Replacement Thread

Like us, he was a South Carolina win away from the CFP a year ago. This year was a little rough, but even in an off year he won 9 games.

Kind of a decline in results.
Won NC
Lost in NC game
Lost in Semifinals
2 straight years no playoffs. He’s never been a coordinator. He has to rely on hiring coordinators. Maybe he’ll do well at Bama if he takes the job. We will see

Phil Fulmer won a title and almost played for another one and this was in a tougher conference. When you lose it, you lose it. I’m not saying that Dabo has lost it but he doesn’t seem to have a finger on the pulse of the direction the game is headed.
Dabo is missing a good qb

I'm REALLY hoping Bama whiffs on DeBoer. With Lanning and Norvell out, things get interesting.

I bet Dabo is on his knees in that big church sweating drops of blood and praying DeBoer says no.
Last time Alabama went to the state of Washington for a coach...................

Mike Norvell turned down Alabama, Dan lanning Turned Down Alabama...

Dan Lanning would have been a good fit at Alabama but he turned it down.

The National Title or bust argument is probably a little ridiculous because Alabama only won 1 in the last 6 years. I do think the coach needs to keep them near 10 wins and top ten rankings and that maybe hard.

Bama will have to win a natty every 3 to 5 yrs and be in the finals every other yr to keep them happy

NEVER follow a legend. Look at the coaches who took the Bama job after Bear and then failed to land a quality HC job afterward. As a HC, do you want a career or a fast cash grab? I think most coaches in their prime want a career. Bama will not hire an unproven coach. I'm still of the opinion that Kiffin is the only fit and it will ultimately go to him when the other proven coaches reject the offer.

As bad as dont want Bama to hire Kiffen, I really believe he is the best hire for them.

The ONLY thing that keeps me from a complete Grinch grin in this is that as names start getting eliminated, the chance of Josh being called increases.

If Kiffin and Dabo are really not on the "In case of emergency: offer one of these guys" list, I can't make myself think they'd actually promote Rees before they'd call Josh.

Josh knows "bama lite" very well. He'd be a loon to take the bama job. Sure, use it to get another raise, but nah. Can't see it.

I tell myself that it's personal with Danny White and Josh Heupel but Alabama has a machine in place, no sanctions, a pretty good roster and <don't throw things, I'm just realizing how college football works> Nico could follow him.

The state of college football means a coach can get be "bundled" with a star player now.

Heard that as well but if DeBoer and Freeman turn them down where do they go?

Good Question. I honestly don't know. Norvell, Lanning and Sark have all said no. Deboer possibly too. Rees, Franklin?? Helluva ego shots to the gumps if they get down to 5th or 6th choice.
