Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

The Cards could get quite a haul for Rasmus. The Brewers might make a small upgrade at short (Jamey Carroll).

What you think Hat? You're the GM of the Reds. What's your plan?
I move LeCure into the rotation and see if I can get a left fielder for someone like Volquez or Frazier. If not, I stand pat and use the money I get back from not excercising Cordero's option at the end of the year to address those problems. The Reds have about a three or four year window with this personnel. No reason to go crazy this year.

Given how badly LaRussa hates him, if they could get anything of serious value of Rasmus they would have done it long ago.

You don't find very many CF's who are cost-controlled for three more years, are only 24, plays great defense, and just last year put up a .276/.361/.498 line with an OPS+ of 137. Actually, there probably aren't any.

Yet, his manager does everything in his power to keep from playing him every day and they haven't moved him. That should tell you something about how much other clubs value him.

Plus his father and his issues will follow him wherever he goes and will most likely continue to cause all kinds of **** storms.

Or, they understand what they have and are waiting for the best offer. Or maybe they understand what they have and don't want to trade.

Also, I don't know why La Russa hates him. I know Colby is immature, but it doesn't seem like he's done anything that egregious. Maybe it's a Yunel/Bobby Cox situation.

What's with him and his father? Maybe a Cards fan can do better to tell me something.

His dad wants him to be a Brave. Cory Rasmus got drafted by the Braves and got hurt. His dad is a headcase. Some parents just don't know when to step away

But at what point should the kid have asked him to kindly butt the F out. 2 way street.

  • The Brewers will acquire Beltran if they can scrape together a package for him, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (Twitter links). Olney, who repeats that the Mets are still insisting on a high-end prospect for Beltran, likens the Brewers' pursuit to "searching for nickels under couch cushions."
The Brewers are trying to go all in but they don't have anything left to trade.

The Braves ‘fully intend’ to add a hitter before the end of the month, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Some of Rosenthal’s sources suggest the Braves are close to a trade, as David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution indicated yesterday.
If the Braves are indeed close to completing a trade, it isn’t for Carlos Beltran, Rosenthal writes. Hunter Pence is not Atlanta’s slugger of choice, though the Braves have expressed interest in him, B.J. Upton, Ryan Ludwick, Jonny Gomes and others.
The Braves are reluctant to overpay for a rental player and they’re uncomfortable with the Astros’ asking price for Pence. The Braves would prefer not to send Jason Heyward to the minors, though the sophomore slugger’s struggles have compounded Atlanta’s need for a bat.

Exactly what moves are the Brewers and Cardinals going to make? Milwaukee has already cleaned out their system of prospects and St. Louis doesn't have the depth to get anything of real value.

And the Cards are being held hostage by #5.

Apparently the Mets aren't against trading Beltran within the division if Atlanta or Philly were to make the best offer

One thing about TL. He won't cut off his nose to spite his face. He will hold his cards close. Always has. The Cards under TL have always kepth stuff quiet.

Yeah, they've done a great job of keeping his feud with the Rasmus camp out of the media. Real KGB stuff.

Braves are going to need more than a Gomes or Ludwick type bat. Too bad they are unwilling to trade the top prospects. Can't really blame them, but I just feel like they have a great shot this year if they could get an impact bat.

Regarding trades he's quiet. As far as having issues with players, well that's a totally different issue. Ask your Reds 3rd baseman.

If the Red's want a LF, they should just call up Alonso. He can play a serviceable LF and of course hit for a solid average with gap power.

And if they are really looking to make a splash, they might as well see what they can get for Grandal. Mesoraco is the future and obviously no room to move to 1B.

I think the Reds are very open to shipping out Grandal. He's been mentioned in rumors several times.

Edit: and I'm not sure how the one year rule works. He may have to be a PTBNL as he didn't sign until the deadline.
