Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Stubbs vs. Upton :D

Stubbs: wOBA.330 wRC+105 OPS .720

Upton: wOBA .324 wRC+106 OPS .722

Upton is a bit better defensively with a UZR of -1.7 compared to -3.2 for Stubbs.

I don't think there is a significant enough upgrade worth trading top prospects for.

Except he isn't that great of an upgrade over Stubbs.

He's a braves fan.

Typically you're right. But in St Louis TL is a lot more powerful than the GM. He runs the show, make no mistake about it.

I suppose that's why they dealt Chris Duncan in when he was opposed to it and why Jocketty got let go in the first place when they brought Mo in?

TLR is influential, but don't be fooled as to who has the most power in that organization. Mo, for better or worse, is second in command to DeWitt.

We will just have to agree to disagree. For better or worse TL gets what he wants. Even when it causes a media **** stir like hiring Big Mac as hitting coach. No one in the front office wanted that but TL got what he wanted.

If LaRussa was running the show, Jocketty would still be the GM.

The Rangers are in talks for Heath Bell. The Cardinals, Angels and Reds are also interested. The Phillies have been connected to Bell, too, but Antonio Bastardo has been lights out, Ryan Madson is coming back and Brad Lidge may be, as well. So Philly's bullpen situation isn't bad as it is.
Heyman

Olney says that the Braves are the frontrunners for Beltran, only requiring a B-level prospect. Minor may be all it takes to get the deal done. (He didn't say that last part, that's JMO.)

I saw on the chicago sun times where it said the cubs would eat most of soriano's salary if somebody would take him. Also said ramierez would not waive his no trade clause. Reds should go get soriano.

I'd do that deal 10 times out of 10. Give up our fifth best pitching prospect for Beltran? Sure, that's a fair deal.

I'm not into the whole "One traded player will decide the division/pennant", but if the Cards get Bell, that might be able to get them into the playoffs. They've blown, what, 17 saves this year? Take have that away and they are running away with the division.

No. No. No. No. No.

He's not even a productive player anymore.

Edit. That was a tad harsh. But he's not anywhere near the player he once was, and won't solve anything.

Sounds great. Minor is for sure one I wouldn't mind getting rid of. Anyone think the braves can sign Beltran long term, IF they acquire him?

I don't think it would be a question of could they sign him, but rather would they want to/be able to. Certainly not if Chipper comes back next season. Regardless, there would be no signing of extension now. He WILL be a free agent.

He's a strict two month rental. I know you hate that, but he can't play CF for long periods of time, and we'll have a logjam next year. Because if Chipper doesn't retire next year, I think the FO has handed Jordan the starting CF job for 2012, and keep Martin in left.
