Trade Deadline Thread

A source says that the commissioner has been informed of a 3 way deal that has Manny and a prospect going to FLA, Hermida and 2 prospects from each FLA and BOS going to PIT and Bay plus Grabow to BOS.

I'd rather the Sox have Bay than Manny.

Per ESPN Radio Manny told a ESPN Deportes reporter:

"The Red Sox don't deserve me"

He's going to be a Marlin when we wake up tomorrow.

From purely a baseball standpoint, it's a bad move. Ramirez has been a better hitter than Bay this year. Has historically been great in the playoffs, etc. If you want to win this year -- and if you're the Sox, that's all you ever care about now -- then you keep Ramirez and his 932 OPS.

I guess at some point you've got to just get the jackass out of the locker room, though.

Ken Griffey Jr. has been traded to the White Sox, pending his approval.
Griffey will decide Thursday morning whether he will accept the trade, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. It is not known what the Reds would receive in return.Griffey is hitting .246 with 14 home runs and 50 RBIs this season.
He hit his 600th career home run on June 9 and now sits sixth on the all-time list with 607 for his career.

Griffey traded to the White Sox. Came out of nowhere.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting that Ken Griffey Jr has been traded to the White Sox. My sources called minutes after — how? C is before R on the call list, right? — to confirm this. As yet, no word on who the Reds get or, more importantly, if Griffey will approve the deal. The Reds earlier had “discussions” with the Rays regarding Adam Dunn, but I’m told that those talks did not get serious. The Reds are also expected to deal David Weathers. More on this once we have more info.

More and more, the Rays are looking at Adam Dunn as a realistic possibility. He isn't the right-handed hitter they have been seeking, but he would bring them needed power. He leads the majors in homers over the last five years (198) and this year (32). He also hit two Wednesday night, boosting Reds GM Walt Jocketty's position.

And here come the contradicting reports. Some say Dunn talks with Rays died and some say they are getting serious. There is also a Conor Jackson for Dunn rumor but nothing extremely reliable.

Here's one of the most surprising names to pop up on the "available" list in the last 24 hours -- Kyle Lohse. Officials of two teams that spoke with the Cardinals report that they've been offering to deal Lohse if they can get back the right package.

The Cardinals have been looking for both a bat and a bullpen arm. And apparently, they concluded they didn't have the prospects to get both. They got Chris Carpenter back from the disabled list Wednesday, with Adam Wainwright a couple of weeks behind. And they have no assurance they can re-sign Lohse because he's a Scott Boras client.

So Lohse could dramatically alter the starting-pitching market Thursday if the Cardinals can find the right taker. Among the teams still looking for a starter: White Sox, Rockies and Yankees.

It wouldn't be an earth-shattering deal or anything, but I wish the Dodgers would pull the trigger on that trade for Maddux. I'd like to see him get a chance at another win or two this year, since he's probably going to retire, and he clearly isn't going to win four more games in San Diego.

I'm glad for Griffey, I just hope we get something worthwhile in return.

If the Reds trade Dunn I am going to be very pissed. VKB, from what you know, what are the chances we trade Dunn?

What position is Griffey going to play? Can he be an every day center fielder anymore?
