I've been worried that my "long term" was much longer term than I thought, so I hope you are correct.
You missed my point.
What you think is long term thinking is really short term thinking based on an assumption that the policies you support as a "progessive" are actually progressive. They at best only progressive in the sense that they are counter to the falsefied political conservative option. But would be objectively viewed as regressive in the context of humanity.
Take any "leftist" subject you want, its regressive.
Environmental? The green industry of today is a shadow of its early 2010 self with an over reliance on non sustainable PV panels instead of the myriad of technologies that were progressing at the time. Look at those who support these ideas alledgely, they dont clean up after their rallies, they consume as much as previous generations, spend time on electronic devices requiring more power generation and unsustainable mining, with no push to fix this glaring hypocrisy.
Racial? More divided than ever, you have people being cancelled (another regression) for a rap lyric, you have one side of the equation who is not even allowed to voice an honest opinion.
Health care? We just saw society fall back on a false prophet in a white lab coat because he had an impressive title who made such bad decisions they are now asking for "amnesty" from those decisions. Instead of pushing established policies, weight loss, exercise, fresh air and sunlight, that would have lead to a more healthy nation overall, they relied on guesses and abuses of power.
Equality has been distorted out of all sense of reality. What made America great was the equality of opprotunity, now that isnt enough. only equality of outcome matters. No matter the relative input, and success is regarded and treated as a societal sin to ask for forgiveness for.
Income inequality. As we have gotten more and more "progessive" the gap only continues to grow, look at Covid. Amazon, walmart did great, mom and pop? Not so much, because of specific targeted programs designed to bury businesses and individuals in red tape rather than their stated goals.
The laughably named "inflation reduction act" which spends trillions more dollars we dont have. It's trying to fight fire with gasoline, with no targetted programs to actually reduce inflation, yay another .5% in January.
Welfare, an ever increasing welfare umbrella means more and more people are now requiring welfare. I dont see anyway to argue that more people NEEDING welfare is a good thing.
The border, a topic so fundamental to how our nation was created has taken so many steps back it threatens the fabric of our nation, and the only proposed solutions boil down to ignoring it, regression again.
Abortion? We have again "equalized" part of society by denying a more vulnerable population based purely on where they reside and the personal wishes of someone who admittedly is at best actively seeking their death of the life in question. This is of course helping drive the impending age gap we have barreling down on us that is only marginally offset by immigration.
Any number of other issues could be boiled down to cosmetic differences that have no real impact on the functioning of this nation, and could arguably be defined as hurting humanity as a whole.
Regression regression regression.
That's not to say the right, conservatives, whoever, have the right, as in the correctness, of it. Just showing how your "long term view" is not long term at all. You would rather be seen doing something, anything, than actually do it correctly over the wrong term.
For what it's worth I could easily do the exact same for the right.
