Transfer Portal Thread

I hope Cal stays at Kentucky. He doesn’t scare me much anymore.

I hope they take Nate Oats. I’m much more worried about Alabama and their future.

Nate Oats would be a fool to turn down North Carolina if they give him a serious offer.

That makes sense...is this including Keon Johnson since he’s still technically on the roster? 4 seems high.
It is too high this doesn’t assume who any of the other teams around us might add. But if you compare the projected pythag rating to past years it’s generally top 10-15.

Me too. And he’s the most obvious candidate for them. Slightly different style than they’re used to but definitely the tempo they like

I’m not sure if they’ll target someone outside the family, but Oats new contract is only 3.3 million a year. If any basketball program can back up the Brinks truck to pay a huge buyout and give a big raise it’s UNC or Duke.

I’m sure it will be an assistant with UNC ties though.

So because of the transfer rule, he could technically just bring his entire team with him? Lol

Let's see what Oats does when he has to rebuild before we start foolishly anointing him to the level of Calipari. He's just a flavor of the month right now

If a coach needs to flip a switch for them but refuses to do it, perhaps he shouldn't have recruited them to his team?

There's no good look for Barnes in the Walker situation as it stands now. It is either a colossal mis-evaluation or a failure as a coach to get him to respond if he washes out here. Barnes seems to recruit an odd mix of players that have not got the physical skills to play at this level or major attitude/off court issues. It's especially painful with Walker because he appears to have the most tools of any of the physically skilled guys that have washed out here under Barnes.

When you've won 60+ championships like Geno you probably know what you're looking for in a recruit and how to get the best from the players you do recruit. I can bet you any amount you'd like to wager than Geno has coached plenty of players up and flipped a switch for them. He built that program from scratch and didn't always have his hand pick of any elite player he wanted.
Name the physically gifted players who have washed out here under Barnes

When is he going to have to “rebuild”? He can theoretically keep his entire team for next season. Not a single player is in any first round mock draft as far as I have seen.

He’s got one of the top PG’s in the country committed for this upcoming season. And he is in it for some of the top talent in 2022. I’ve seen more than enough. He’s the real deal and he isn’t going to have to “rebuild” any time soon thanks to the COVID rule.

VQ on their podcast today said Tennessee will add 2-4 transfers, they won’t just take someone to take someone, but if it was the right 4 they’d go 4. Said they really want a shooter, potentially even 2, and post help as well...specifically mention Justin Powell, Jayden Gardner and Qudus Wahab as guys they’ve been in contact with.

Barnes is finally taking advice from VN

Update about Gardner:

East Carolina leading scorer and rebounder Jayden Gardner phone has been very busy since entering the transfer portal. Gardener averaged 18.3 points, and 8.3 points this season. As of now Gardner has had two zooms with NC State and Virginia and will have an additional zoom meeting with Miami tonight. The plan right now is to narrow his list down to five at and be done with the process within three weeks.

“My family and I just felt like I needed to maximize my opportunity and just take advantage of what's going on in college basketball right now. We want to make sure I maximize my opportunity to get to the next level. We feel that I did all that I could at East Carolina and it's nothing but love for them but we just feel it's in my best interest if I want to play at the next level to go somewhere else.”

Gardner broke down his two zoom meetings with 247Sports.

NC State: “The zoom went really well and the whole coaching staff is really good and has great experience. Their message was to come in, be the guy, play a lot of minutes and I would be the hometown hero if I play in my home state. They also told me how they’re going to develop me and how we're going to do all this plus win a lot of games. I like their style of play because they have a lot of uptempo and fast guards and have a really good shot blocker, one of my close friends Manny Bates. They also have a lot of North Carolina guys that they're trying to win with.”

Virginia: “The zoom went great. It was me, the head coach and head assistant. We talked about basketball, real life stuff , faith in god, what they do here, their tradition, and how interested they are in me. They see potential in me to get to the next level and talked about how great they are on the defensive end, and the success they have had in developing their players.”

Should we be worried about UNC coming for Barnes? He is from Hickory after all...
Nah. Their fans would consider it sacrilege after that time Barnes almost got in a fight with Dean Smith when he coached Clemson.
